Welcome to the slippery slope................the strength and predictability of the influence may vary................
|
are the bumpers going to be FG to save weight? it's not terribly difficult to use steel LWB bumpers on a G body, and you get to use the chrome bumperettes in the back if that's your thing. i did all steel bumpers on my '76 for just that reason...
|
Saving a bit of weight....Steel RS backdate kit from TRE, with the exception of glass R style front bumper and RS style rear bumper and no F'glass ducktail....using a relatively stock, steel engine lid w/lightweight grille.. So a bit of a mixed bag...steel and glass, based on the design requirements.

what's your plan to address the front latch/bulkhead issue?
|
Thanks for keeping us updated.
Could I suggest hanging the CV axles from the shock tower with some wire/string? The axles are heavy enough that dangling them like that will put a sizeable dent in the boot flange. Ask me how I know......... |

backdate update
I'm installing the TRE steel backdate kit on the Carrera. Can you say "spot welds"...I knew you could.......steel backdate requires replacing the front latch panel with the long hood style....also I'm trial fitting a new Dansk early fender. It is getting real. This week I should have all of the parts removed, either being replaced or refurbed....then I'll start the update/backdating..........Yes!!!!

Nice Work AL!
|
Al,
All that work w/o a lift? You are dedicated for sure.Hats off to you sir. Where is your "go fund" me page? |
Looking good Al, it's amazing how much work a person can finish while the rain comes down here in the northwest.

backdate.....
To install the steel backdate fenders/hood etc, there is some metal work required. The front latch panel gets replaced with the early, long-hood panel......there are different ways to accomplish this, but I am drilling out all of the spot-welds and welding in the new panel. Also the front bumper, shock mounts interfere with the early fenders, so they require cutting back to fit or removal.......A bit of work & not for the faint of heart. I am also working on the suspension bits and am starting on the re-assembly of the rear suspension, including new t-bars (going from Sway Away 26mm solids to 29mm Sanders hollow) front and rear. The Sanders are very nice parts.
The interior carpeting is completely out and being shipped to the next owner......things are really starting to move along.,,,I am so busy with this and other projects, i have little time to take pix, but...stay tuned. Ollies is shipping the case back next week...spigots opened up to accept 3.5 Nickies P&Cs.....GTS seats should ship in a week or two.....and the final delvery of the TRE backdate kit should arrive in that time frame as well. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1548958713.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1548958713.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1548958713.jpg regards, al PS: ignore that 69 lump in the background.......... |
Go Al go! Raz is going to be a happy camper with the fine backdate work, but I too, am hoping you can make better progress on the 69 lump! Go Al go!
|
Brian, I am setting aside time every week (almost) for quality time with the 69 rat rod.
regards, al |
