Need a key made

The 69 911 I bought recently only came with one key. Would a professional locksmith have something that would work? Or, do I need to buy a blank from someone, and then have a locksmith cut it? Thanks

Buy a blank and go to ACE hardware...they've cut P keys for me.

I went to the local Porsche dealer after no one else had the blanks. Reasonable price.

This was for 85 Carrerra.

I have noticed "Taylor" brand blanks work, are the proper size and shape EXCEPT they are thinner than OEM stock. Nice to have the real thing and blanks are not difficult to find. Having one key to anything makes me nervous. Three is a good minimum, then keep the original 'under lock and key' .

understood -- however, had a bad experience a few years ago with the "looks like it matches" keyblank the locksmith selected and cut for me from taylor keystock (believe it was a VW-compatible blank. It fit into the lock just fine, but the stop at the end of the key was slightly different than stock, causing it to get lodged into the lock -- was able to carefully jiggle it out, but lesson learned from that and have only used oem porsche blanks since then.

Starting with the proper blank is "KEY" ( sorry ) also finding good key-cutters is getting rarer. There's a place near me that gets it right 99 % of the time but they don't cut complicated keys. Other places have messed up & given me non-working keys, so make sure they stamp the key or verbally back up their work, they might not agree to this with a blank you provide however. The good thing is Porsche keys look fairly simple to cut .

Yep, if I remember it was approx $30 for the blank and cutting, but then I got the cool Porsche lighted key head and that is where they got me... I think $90 total.

I got a key cut for mine today. I purchased a genuine blank from our host and got my neighbour who is a mobile locksmith to cut me one. I thought he would just copy my old key but he said is had some wear. He has some pretty clever gear and didn’t want to use my old 43 year old key. He counted the highs and lows along the key and the depth of each one (1 being shallow and 4 being deep - 10 cuts in total on the key) and entered the sequence into his computer. Started the program and the machine cut my key as if it were from the factory. Tried it out and it is way better than the old one.
I would 100% go to a locksmith and get it cut properly preferably as outlined above.

I’ve had Ace cut me a key and the Porsche dealer order a new one (they need proof of registration if I recall). The dealer key worked much better.

I would also bet a pro locksmith vs the guy at Ace could probably do a pretty good job as well.

Locating someone who will compensate for the wear and cut it like new, as opposed to just copy it, is probably the hardest part of the whole project....those skills are hard to find.

And also anyone ever get a Factory Alarm key made off of a code?

If you have the key code they don’t need the key. If they have the correct equipment to do it they will just punch the code into the computer and it will formulate the cut sequence and cut that onto the blank. Just like new and no replication of wear if copied from another key. Most decent locksmiths should be able to do this.
