Positioning engine compartment seal during engine install
I have always had trouble getting the bottom half of the engine compartment lip seal into position as the engine tray and engine are tightened up into position with the rear mounting bolts. Yesterday we tried a better way-it worked like a charm!
We used a rope tucked between the lips just like you do when installing a windshield. Now if someone can just figure a better way to install the seal into the little groove! |

Great idea. So you pulled out the rope after the bolts on the transmission and engine mounts were tight?

Not exactly. You do not want to squeeze the lower lip so tightly that it cannot flip down. As soon as the rear bolts catch and you have maybe 1/2 inch of movement left-pull the lip down and then tighten the rest of the way.

Thanks, that makes sense. On the to-do list before the engine goes back in.

Thanks for the tip. I have my car apart and this will come in handy on assembly.
My seal is in bad shape and in need of replacement. Anyone have a buying recommendation on the URO seal vs the Porsche one that is 3x the cost? I have read to spend the money on the Porsche window seals but I am thinking this one is not as critical?? |
