Anyone use a non Porsche air compressor for the spare tire

I have a 85 stock 911 that came without the portable air compressor to inflate the spare--wondering if anyone still uses it or carries some other air compressor for that "just in case moment".

I use a Viair compressor - it has alligator clips to power directly from the battery. Came with a nice soft bag and is a very, very, nice unit.

I do. I carry something like this in the 911 and in my SxS along with patch kits.

https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/motomaster-12v-premium-multi-function-air-compressor-4-minute-0095031p.html#srp

They have come in handy in both but especially in the SxS where flats tend to occur far from help.

If you don't spend $300 on it, I don't think it will actually work on a Porsche.

If you search on ebay, you can find a newer porsche air compressor that works well and is small enough to notice a difference. All for <$100

I carried a [Sears/Craftsman] portable compressor for years. They are like $20-$50 bucks these days. Harbor freight or Walmart. Don't over think this.

Potentially equally worrisome, of course, is relying on a 30+ year old collapsable spare

yeah my thoughts exactly ... less worried about the compressor than i would be driving my car on a 40 year old tire that gas been collapsed for that long. I think as soon as you put weight on it , it is likely to pop.

I would never ever seriously consider this , thats why i keep roadside assistance.

don't worry, they are robust. frind of mine recently did a 37km "home run" on one of These.

best option to at least get you and car off the highway risking your butt being hit...

I have roadside assistance-in case something happens-so no issue there, the best thing they can do is flatbed your car away.

My car did not have the factory compressor. I bought one that was pretty small in comparison to the factory unit. I wanted the smallest physical size so it would fit right next to the AC condenser fan in the trunk. I have used it a few times at an autocross, and it pumps fine. It is NOT cool looking and I keep it in a plastic grocery bag stuffed in the corner of the trunk. All I care about is will it pump air.

I bought it 20 years ago so I doubt I can find one just like it again.

I have some random unit that came with my car and they're all basically the same. Except of course a Porsche compressor, or any compressor that costs more than $200, is proven to perform 40% better than anything else pumping Porsche air. Between the compressor, a plug kit and AAA, I'm fairly well covered.

Porsche does have a recommended N spec air.

I have a HF unit I recently bought for my 85 911.
I've had to use it a couple of times and it works great.
I also carry a can of "flat fix" just in case!

You need to make sure it's metric- no inch-air for these thoroughbreds.

I use a compressor from Amazon. Useful for all the cars for the winter/summer wheel change or when my daughter doesn't pay attention to her tire pressure for too long.

I use Porsche approved air, flown in, in a special container from Germany. I then transfer it to a holding unit that is hermetically sealed.

Mine still has the factory unit and original spare tire.

I have a couple of Viair units with battery clips that I keep in the pickup and my daily driver. Nice little workhorse compressors and a reasonable price on Amazon.

I wish I had such trivial inquiries about my 911...

I tossed the spare in the basement years ago, get's in the way, weighs a bunch, and IMO wouldn't be safe to use even if it did inflate.
