Euro Engine Codes

Hello, sorry, I've searched but came up empty!

Evidently, I have just picked up a euro spec car (bought by accident, another story for another post), it's highly modified tribute car (935 body kit) and needs finished.

So I'm currently going through it and seeing what I have, or don't have. While I've had other Porsche's (951/Cayman S/996) this is my first air cooled model.

Guy who rebuilt the engine says it's a 3.0L Grey market car.

Anyway, engine code is 6290707 in the engine charts I've found the second digit '2' is not listed.

Any help is appreciated!

Redbook says a 629 series is a 930-04 78-79 year model US 49 State car (non Cali)...not a Euro. A Euro for that time frame would start with 639.

Thanks, so it is a 3Ltr aluminium case? The chassis vin indicates a '76, so looks like non original engine.

Yes. Midyear chassis (76) with a US 3ltr aluminum case.

Thanks, I would consider that an upgrade to the 2.7, especially since it's rebuilt. But the downside is they pulled the FI and topped it with a Holley carb.

I'm sure there will be more surprises to come!
