Truck Scale Weigh-In

Took the Mexico Blue 911 to a nearby truck scale to see the weigh-in results. Shared the results with some buddies. They all want to do it now too. We'll do it but the "fattest" car is buying breakfast for the others. If you do it, I'd recommend that you put the rear (drive axle) on the back scale to see how much weight there is in the back. It is pretty easy. You push a button at the scale and the operator will ask "first weigh or re-weigh?". You say "first weigh" and then they will ask you for a truck number. I just said "911". LOL I was hoping for sub 2400 but my rear seat delete is pretty beefy. Made form 3/4" MDF. I had the spare tire and tools onboard and about a 1/3 tank. Could probably drop another 125 pounds if I took all that stuff out.

Interesting. I weighed my 1973 car at a Washington state I-5 weigh station. 2640 lbs with me, a half tank of gas, spare wheel/tire, tools, and other miscellaneous crap in the car. Subtract my lard ass dressed, and the other crap I carry around in the car, and it ends at 2370 lbs with the spare wheel/tire, no tools, and a half tank, or about 2330 lbs with an empty tank. I doubt the scales are accurate to 10 lbs, but that's pretty close to Porsche's advertised weight for the original car.

Over the years, I removed the heavy rubber/asphalt mat that went under the rear seats and shelf, and replaced that with Dynamat sound deadening, which should have excised some weight, and I changed the front fenders to fiberglass when the originals got rusty, which should have shaved about 20 lbs. On the adipose side, I added a Rennline skid plate (I didn't weigh it, maybe 10 lbs?), I installed a 3.2 CIS engine, which added some weight. Other mods didn't affect the weight much.

That is an interesting number. I weighed my ROW 1983 SC on the scales at Rockingham before an autocross (yes, we ran on the speedway) years ago. I remember it weighing about 2700 with the car still loaded up with spare, tools, etc.

This thread needs more pics of the Mexico coupe..! Let us know what the heaviest CLT area 911 ended up at. I picture someone getting creative before his weigh-in and taking out pass seat and anything else that can get yanked out in 30 min or less...

CAT scales run in 20lb increments. First thing you do is get the whole truck & trailer or whatever on. That's your total. Pull one axle off at a time and do the math. For my LQ trailer you have to drop it and redo the rear axle to find the pin weight. In a slight wind my P car bounced around +/- 20lbs. I'm lucky, my neighbor has his own scale.

I sure don't want to join your cub, I would be buying breakfast all the time.

My 85 is a porky 2,741 pounds according to the corner balance scales from the alignment and corner balance.

BUT, I have all the heater fans for cold weather.

16 degrees.

Palm Springs last summer at 107 degrees

Our unloaded luggage in Savannah, GA where the heat index one day was 135, and my wife asked me to turn the AC temperature UP as she was cold. I have the 4 condenser Mr. Ice AC system in my car.

I have driven it to 41 states, and Canada.

It was only 98 in Key West Florida. My sunglasses would fog up everytime I stepped out of the AC cold car into the humid heat.

I totally understand the goal of light weight. But my comfort driving for 12 in the summer across this large country far outweighs the need for saving some weight.

I will be driving to Birmingham, AL this summer and participating in the DE at Barber Motorsports Raceway.

I will have to add another sticker for that.

roads on the way to Birmingham AL

"I will be driving to Birmingham, AL this summer and participating in the DE at Barber Motorsports Raceway"

Glen--I realize it's out of the way, but if you have time on your trip for a stop in Nashville, there are some nice twisty roads in the vicinity I could show you. Also, the Lane Motor Museum in Nashville has a wonderful collection I highly recommend (their collection of Tatras is incredible!).

I will have my wife in the passenger seat. She will be very patient with me this year, as I am doing the two day Porsche driving experience at Barber in new Porsches, then the DE in my car on Saturday. We are on a be line to and from Birmingham.

On my way to Charleston. SC I did the Tail of the dragon, and spent a lot of time on back roads.

You sure this isn't for a 914?

Its a 911...all the body work is either carbon fiber, or fiberglass including the roof , the windows are polycarbonate or Lexan, no drivers or passenger door windows.. totally gutted interior, all undercoating and sound damping materials removed..no passenger seat, kirkey drivers seat.. full cage..no gauges (Aim dash),heater blower and ducting removed..coilovers, Fikse wheels...

It started as a 69 911T which weighed 2249#

I forgot what my 914 weighs, it has a 3.2/6 and is caged as well, but the bodywork is all steel..

When I bought my SC a loooong time ago it weighed in at 2470lb. That was with spare parts in the back, minimum gas and weighed by the shipping company before it went into a container to come to NZ from England.

I can do a weigh in at the local dump. I may ask them when their next calibration is and go just after that. I may do a no tools, no spare tire, minimum juice in the tank and definitely no me in the drivers seat.
