Adjusting Spark plug wires for more secure connection

Hi everyone. I have what may be a stupid problem. I bought a set of Magnecor wires PEL-MAGN65121 about 5 years ago. They are pretty great except they are a bit less secure than I'd like and sometimes they pop off the spark plug. I haven't looked to see if I can smoosh the female end together a bit, but I was thinking that might be an option. Has anyone had similar issues? Any tricks maybe? I do wish they were less wobbly.

Folks speak highly of Magnecor.

I have Clewett and was pleased with the distinct click when they bit onto the plug head. I don't think Magnecor should be any different. I am not doubting your observations.

Others will input that have Magnecor wires.

Just to ask the obvious.

Are you sure you have them pressed down upon the plug with a robust amount of force?

How many times have you removed them from the plugs in the last five years. If so, were they hard to remove?

What plugs are you running? Anything oddball?

Is the sensation the same on all of the plug connections?

I agree with bob. I had magnecor wires and them along with clewets which I have now really have to be driven home. I suggest that as tight as the boots fit they are more of a factor in securing them than the wire lead cap. after having been in place for a spell it obvious the rubber boot is what is holding them securely. they can be a b!itch to get off even.

I have a set of Magnecor wires and they never come loose. There is a definite click when attached to the plug.

There is definitely a click when I press it onto the spark plug. I'm used to VW's were the plug wire fills the hole and there's a definite stop to it. These seem to swivel on top of the plug once you snap them on. The boot does a little to stabilize it, but the boot (more like a collar) tends to fold and move around a bit or slide up and down a bit freely. Should I jam it down to the bottom? Or midway?

What is a robust amount of force? One click I would imagine is the correct amount?

I've had them for about 5 years. Never have they been hard to remove.

I think I put NGK plugs in a while back. Not sure, but they'd be the ones highly recommended by Pelican. BRK something probably.

Sensation is the same on all plugs

Not a stupid problem. I have the same issue with my magnecors. They click alright but are wobbly & occasionally pop out. I have tried making the female end smaller with a needle nose plier but no joy. Tried all kinds of angles, same thing.

Have yet to address it but I believe it could be the placement of the plug wire guide/holder. I believe I did not put them back in their proper location when I took them out to enlarge them as the magnecors were thicker than the berus. There is movement in the wires, especially #3, #5 & #6. Maybe these should be taut.

Another solution is to use the Supertec RSR spark plug connector holder. I know these are for twin plug use on the lower valve covers but they may just work.

If you can't get the Magnecors to hold securely, I suggest you get the Clewett set, which are just as good and everybody swears by them. I've been on the forum for 15 years and I've read many threads about problems with Magnecors, but don't ever remember a problem discussed with the Clewetts. And the Clewett wires are much cheaper.

Yeah, I thought it would be more of a problem. Maybe more people just run Clewetts. They were about the same price IIRC. I also really like the idea above of getting these Supertec RSR spark plug connector holders. Only 50 bucks and those bastards better never pop out.

I installed the magnecors last summer and have the same issue. I spent half the time trying to seat them properly only to find they are still loose. I haven’t had a problem with them coming off unwanted but only have a couple hundred miles on the car. It sure runs better than the original Beru set.

Interesting, so yeah, it's not like I have an old set I guess. Be prepared for them to fall off I guess. I autocross mine heavily, and It's probably happened around 15 times. Then the car just misfires like an animal and depending on how many pop off it becomes unmanageable and is kinda scary with that oh ***** what now feeling.
