Early G body rear reflectionor attachment help

Hi

I’m slowly dialing in my 74 Targa, purchased 1st gen rear reflection with the threaded studs. Searched the forum and learned the screws were changed to press fit fastereners around 77. I understand I will have to remove muffler, heat shielding and lower bumper valance to gain access to the threaded studs. Went to hardware store and purchased ss M4 locking nuts and washers but I’m stuck as the plastic bosses that hold the threaded studs go through the holes and come to rest proud of the rear sheet metal. There is no surface for the nuts to tighten against. Before I McGiver something want to ask the forum for ideas.

You are on the right track. You need the special porsche hardware that acts as a bit of a shock absorber for the reflector. There are two washers, a larger plastic washer slides over the plastic riser on the reflector, then a rubber grommet, then a smaller center holed flat washer and the nut. The rubber grommet takes up the difference that is making the plastic part stand proud through the hole.

Like the lack of a rear targa window. Keep it that way if you can. Very retro.

Thanks
I Just carry a blue tarp . I have the glass wanted to paint first however the primers growing on me. Island car, park her anywhere no worry.

I bet chances of finding that those Porsche washers is very slim. Was thinking about making wood spacers with two holes the size of the plastic bosses that slightly thicker than how far the plastic protrudes into to cavity. 5@2 x 3 inches with two 1/2” holes.

I never realized what a PITA the older reflectors were..... Last years of the G body are extremely easy to remove and reinstall.

I pulled up PET 905-001
The drawing does not seem to show the above rubberized washers.

That is a bada$$ photo without the rear glass and the landscape.

Now I remember that car - thanks for the update, it's been awhile.
