Pads for 911 S-Calipers

What is the recommended brake pad for my "S" calipers that Eric (PMB) just restored for me?

Depends on what your priorities are:
dust - no dust
rotor wear
extreme conditions - DE, Track
noise.

For everyday, normal driving, the factory Textar would be my recommendation.

I have Kool Kevlar on my 73, Pagid orange on my 930, and Porterfield R4-S on my 912E (also with S calipers rebuilt by PMB).

I'm sure Eric would also have a good recommendation.

if a pad brand is what you are asking ive always like the ferodo 2500's. they were a great all purpose pad for street and DE applications in my past experience. when my car was converted to a spec racer I used a more race dedicated pad.


the late S calipers use the same pad as the SC and Carrera calipers.

'best pad' entirely depends on planned use. Avoid any sport or track biased pads if planned use is street. My basement is full of useless to me sports pads that just dont work well on the street

Agree, for street the Textars are the way to go.

What are you using that makes noise?

The S calipers, which are aluminum and have a wider throat, take a thicker pad than the A front calipers (which is what all the calipers from 1975 on were through 1989, with the 84-9's being a bit different but same pads).

But you can use the A caliper pads with the S caliper - you can always fit a pad which, when new, is a bit thinner than the maximum. You won't notice any difference at all.

Last time I looked, the real S pads cost more - much smaller market.
