'71 2.2E engine question
This engine is in the 914 conversion that I bought recently. Looking at the air filter box, I have a couple of fittings that don't have hoses attached, which based on my research here, is causing my high idle when warm (1600-1800rpm). Would greatly appreciate it if someone here could tell me what the two fittings circled in the attached photo should be linked to.

Hopefully one of the experts will chime in. In the meantime if memory serves the larger opening is where crankcase ventilation is routed while the smaller opening is where air from the engine fan is blown into the air cleaner assembly.

I have the same engine.
Not 100% sure but I think the little pipe on the lower right is the fuel line that supplies the cold start? It should run through the air cover and connect to two lines that feed the top of each stack.

I couldn't remember the details since I removed my stock airbag and switched to the motorsports style air cleaners.
I found this diagram online which shows the drain hose (12). The hose passes through the engine-tin/firewall and the little receptacle (10) is mounted to the back of the engine on the underside of the car. Usually full of sludge! ![]()

The single small nipple is a drain. The larger Tee is connected to both the oil tank vent line and the forward charcoal canister vent line.
Neither are the cause of high idle. What do you consider high idle? High idle on MFI can be caused by throttles out of sync or linkage that is too short. It could also be timing that is out of spec (too advanced). Time to dig a little deeper and find the cause. Start going down the list of "Check, Measure and Adjust".
