This is the diode from my '78. It is near the right side hood lift shock.

No idea if your '86 is similar.

The diode you are referring to is the
other diode that is on the light switch
used only on the M/Y 1986.

It is used to turn off the license plate light
when the "standing" lights are on.

As for my post, it would appear that when I turn on
the "standing" lights by placing the turn signal
to the right for the passenger side, the "standing"
light does not activate, but works well for the driver's side.

The system, as I recall, is selective for either
left or right standing lights.

Thanks,

Gerry

Just checked my notes and the diode I referenced is for the door switches/interior lights. Sorry, wrong animal.

Do you think there is a chance it could be part of the harness between the stalk plug and the intermittent control module but under some insulation? (inline or integral to the harness)

I looked and found 2 candidates but they may not be good ones. These were located behind the dash and between the dash and the drivers side frunk hinge. I didn't see yellow wires tho'.

One with red/blk wires appears to be inches away from the rear wiper switch so may be for the rear wiper. The other was wrapped do tightly, and it may just be for the parking Lights.

Diode.

I'll have another look at the CKT,
and try to find a way to do a front/back ratio
on the diode.

Thanks to all,

Best,

Gerry

Aha!

Pic is from post 22 of this thread: wipers not parking no intermittent wipers

Diode with yellow wires right under the intermittent wiper relay.

On the 86. The diode is located under the dash on the left side. It is likely tucked right under the ignition key and light switch. It looks like the picture that is posted.

yes, the diode is for the right side and when bad they don't work.

if the left side does not work then take a look at the turn signal contacts.

the diode you have on the diagram is not for the lights, it looks like that one is there to turn on the wipers when you activate the washer pump.

I recently had a problem with the “standing” lights on my 89 930. Driver’s side was not working, passenger side worked fine. Starting from the fuse block, traced circuit to the light switch and then to the turn signal switch verifying voltages. Found 12v in all the correct terminals. No diodes in MY89 to worry about though. Concluded the turn signal switch had failed internally, replaced and all is well.
