slow911, send me an e-mail if you will be coming for sure on the 29th, soukus@comcast.net, and I will send you directions. It'll great to have you join us.
Chris, you have that parade permit yet? :) Rich, I'll make sure we get a lot of pictures that you can use to give your buddy a hard time :D |
We've been "baiting" him for weeks now. Keith, you know we'll be merciless if you don't make it :)
Rich, can you guarantee he even HAS a car? I keep hearing about it and have seen a photo or two, but never actually seen this thing in person yet... I'm beginning to wonder if maybe he's just a photoshop expert. :D ;) |
Souk and Chris:
I know he HAS a car, but given your lovely weather and the fact that we live 2400 miles apart now makes it difficult to complete these projects at the rate we used to. We once pulled the motor in my Camaro at 10AM, stripped the engine, rebuilt it, new rings bearings, etc. and put it back in and had it running at 10PM the same night. Then, there are some other family obligations that get in the way nowadays that never used to be a problem. I think that a Pelicanhead banzai one-day rear main seal replacement session is required -- I'll even pay for the beer and pizza! You should be able to pull the motor and trans, separate them, pull the flywheel, replace the seal and put it back in the car in one day with no problem. Anyhow, don't be too merciless on him or he will send me 25 e-mails per day asking if my engine is in yet. Worse yet, he might change his mind about coming to visit and helping me with my car. Then I would lose my opportunity to convince him to move to Porsche country (SoCal) so we don't have to do these projects by e-mail and FedEx! Rich |
Ummmmmmmmm. Beer and Pizzzzzzzzza. Keith? Come on man...I'm hungry and thirsty, and it's on Rich :D
Seriously, if you need a hand, let me know. Anything to get you out on the 29th...I want some pictures :D And here is one more from Saturday...I try to be artsy, but end up being more fartsy sometimes :) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/side m view.JPG |
We know how hard it is to take pictures very quickly, and there's no way you had a lot of time with that 930 BEHIND you! Completely understandable.
Don't worry - you'll have all the time in the world to snap my 2.7 behind you. I'll be the tiny litlle headlights back a few miles or so. |
Ray, you'll have plenty of fun on the route with the 2.7. Chris and I took it very easily on Saturday as the road was wet, and there was quite a bit of traffic. Even at the speeds we were driving, the road is twisty enough to be fun.

sheeeeesh........Souk and Chris......I can't keep up with your threads on this message board! Give a busy man a break will ya!!? I usually just log onto the Pelican Msg board and check my subscribed threads...........little did I know you started this one!!
I'm looking forward to this rural cruise. I'm assuming this is an open invitation? If that's the case, I'll make sure to invite some of my other Car enthusiast friends............German, Japanese and Domestic fanatics!! Would that be alright? |
"...and a fast red one at that...
Eric, dispense with some details here bud" Thanks Chris, the car just makes me look good! just your everyday track prepped,PCA C class 993 Cab club racer. Winter project ,bolt in roll cage, halon system and monoball supension & camber plates. Jack, Perfect Power is one of the best kept secrets in Chicago! When you want it done right the first time, Sol is the man! |
Eric,
Do they have a chassis dyno there? I heard that they did and was thinking of using them to do my advance curve/carb jet setup. |
Chris,
No dyno at PP. Let me know if you find one as I too would be interested. None of the usual shops here in Chicago have one, even Kelly Moss got rid of the chassis dyno last year... |
Dang,
I know there's a few around, someone told me of one at a new Chevy chop on the north side.... But I was hoping to find one that new 911's to assist in tuning the new setup. Guess it'll be "seat of the pants" for a while. I've got the data aquisition with acclerometers, but honestly doubt it's accurate enough to tune ignitions with... |
Chris - Yea I have a car, TRUST ME, your day will come when you have kids. I tend to let the car slide when the kids want to do things. I hope that one or both of my boys will make the ride out with me.
I hope to at least get the car to Souk's house on the 29th and maybe shag a ride with someone else. The rear main is leaking a lot along with the line on the cam tower. I am replacing the cam tower lines today or tomorrow and I think I can nurse the rear main. I will not have time to tackle the rear main until after the ride on the 29th. Plus I have to let Rich get the 2.7 installed before I completely fix mine. :D Chris - If I get the oil lines replaced soon I will call you and see when I can stop by your house some evening this week or next and try my hand with the syncrometer. The Unisyn is not the easiest to read. Rich - I have a better idea, why don't you do a road trip to Chicago once the 2.7 is installed and I will buy the beer and pizza! I bet we could even get enough Chicago area pelicanheads to drive part of the way with you. You did want to see the 69S, correct? Turbodrvn - Are you going on the 29th? If so, I might want to hook up with you on the way to Souk's incase my maiden voyage goes south. I know I can make it as far as your house. Souk - great job on the pictures. Love the Bait Machine! |
A guy I work with had his car on a chassis dyno last year. I will find out the details and post here.
|
Chris/gentlemen: I know of several Dyno shops within the Chicagoland area. Chris, we'll talk in person about them; I may be joining you and Souk later for your test runs. Souk and I will connect via cell phones later today.
Keith: Yes, I'm looking forward to it. No problem about the 29th, bro. I already emailed you my phone #. Make sure you call me on March 29th early in the morning.......or for that matter, whenever you wish.....just call me. Can't wait for you guys to see my latest acquistion for my 930!!! :D I've got another mad crazy day on the road today for work.......so I'm signing off the computer..............hopefully I'll connect with you all later. AA. |
Keith, Just bustin' your b@lls... I'm just jealous of that bodywork. :) I'm sure when I have kids the biggest problem will be Dad leaving them alone. :D
Ahmed, would apprecaite that info... I'll pass what I find out to you as well Eric. Even if we don't secure the go-kart track on the 29th, I definitely sense a Chicago Pelican go-kart enduro in the near future! |
Karting: there is a kart track the is more tamed than the one Chris and I saw Saturday on the corner of Rt 30 and Ogden in Oswego, next to the bubble dome. Chris, you probably saw the dome on the way to my house. I'll check if it is opened yet, as I have not gotten a response fron the other track.
There is a skid/slick track with better carts than the one in Oswego on Rt 47 and Rt 30 in Sugar Grove. It'll be fun to get the carts sideways and drift through the turns. Chris can give us pointers while Esther dominates the track. :D Sam, I'm honored you want more pictures from us. We all know you are the picture King on this BBS. We'll try to please His Honor :) . |
Dyno Info
Here is what I found: APG Performance in Wooddale has a dyno http://www.apgperformance.com as does AMS in Schaumburg, I will try to find more information about them. Maybe the next Pelican outing in Chicago is a Dyno Day! He who has the most HP wins! |
Ooooh, Dyno Day! Great idea Keith. Now, who wants to drive the 911 over to the dyno shop so I can bring my bike too? :)
|
LOL - you see, I have a score to settle with chris... last time we went karting I wouldn't let chris LAP me so I kept taking his lines and disregarding the refs who were throwing the blue flag at me so my impatient husband rams me at the downhill hairpin curve so I spin and get stuck... so now I gotta get him and I'm thinking a slower US track is just the ticket I need to do so :D :D
|
Hey Chris.. tell me about your race 911. I watched one of your vids and it sounded very sweet. Thanks.
