regular maintenance?

Could someone tell me what the regular (and or irregular) real-world maintenance would be (as in, $$ - more or less) between a, say, '78cs and an '84 Carrara?

This board has been such a blessing in getting info on what to look for as I search out my first Porsche- you guys and gals have been great (I just don't hope I wear out my welcome!)

Thanks again.

3-5k on on oil and valve adjsutments.....or once a year. Plugs....10k ish....pull them on every other oil change and check gap.

Trans oil....depends, banged on all the time....once a year. Brake fluid once a year, flush entire system.....

Money wise in comparison to an SC and a Carrera....not much difference.

I am not sure about the Carrera.

On my SC I adjust the valves every 6 or 7 thou. 10,000 would be about the norm though. Do plugs and rotor at the same time.

Oil change every 3 or 4 thousand.

So far, knock on wood, I have performed all required maintenance on my own.

Hmm, are you asking what is done or how much it costs, the cost of on SC and Carrera will be similar on maintenance. I think I have heard people mention 1000-1500 per year, but I think that is for paying someone else to do the work. I don't think my Carrera is that much a year for "regular maintenance", now if you count unexpected costs then it probably avg about $800- 1200 a year. (tires, misc things going bad/breaking, etc...)

Jesus, I read Mikez's answer and thought I'm making a terrible mistake: 3-5k for an oil and valve adjustment! (then I saw he's talking about miles and not $s.) What I was really asking is if it's likely to cost more to keep an '84 going smoothly as opposed to a '78 (sorry for the confusion)
