Decklid Alignment
I have an 81 Coupe with an aftermarket fiberglass ducktail spoiler. The lid sits about 1/4" high on one side and 1/8" low on the other. I thought this would just be a matter of adding shims to the mounting bracket but it appears to be permanently attached to the body. Tried loosening the bolt at the pivot point but nothing there.

Shims can be used to tilt the rear end of the deck down without raising the front edge much. I had the same issue...without knowing who did your deck or what make it is...here is how i ended up with a nice fit
see # 6.... maybe start there and remove struts to see if they are lifting your deck lid 1 If your FG duck is formed onto your original steel deck, chances are that its actually pretty flexible, I put pressure on the high side and was able to adjust 1/4 inch of height variance 2 Remove your rubber stops to start. if fact remove your latch as well. see if you can get a good fit with out them. Then I put the rubber back on and experimented to get contact on both sides and a square gap line across. 3 then I found a 4 inch x 3/4 inch spring, cut to 3.5 inches and replaced spring in the latch. Adjusted latch up and down to get a good closure feel and a tight latching that maintains the spacing i got in 2 4 I bought 2 6mm bolts and 2 threaded rubber pads to mount the latch to the deck. This because the installer removed the center brace (dont know why) so when I attached the latch bracket I threaded those on the other side of the latch plate and then turned the rubber up to touch the deck lid inside (small pice of 1/8 inch aluminum plate was epoxied to inside of deck on fiberglass to spread pressure..cant even see unless looking.) up aginst the plate. Thhis gives more rigidty to the latch 5 Screw the adjuster to get the fit..dont mess with try to shim the latch plate or anything..it should engage dead center 6 lastly, I did have to remove both my turbo struts as they applied alot of pressure on the one side of the lid..lifting it up. Tried one strut but still (being heavy duty) it tried to lift as well. I may look for a low pressure strut or just put in a hood prop like I have on the front (when its cold, struts dont hold and I get a head bang for my efforts) good luck..PM me if you need some pictures etc |
