How many years will the rubbery end of a German turn signal last?
46, in my case:
Who can I call in upper Management at Porsche about this horrible failure? Short of that, anyone ever source just the rubbery cover bit? Our host has the entire switch and harness for the rather staggering cost of $463.75... I'll try something else before parting for that kind of scratch... I am trying Gorilla glue but I doubt I'll get another 46 years of service out of it...

You could always be super creative. Carve a replacement out of wood, rivet it in, stain it, buy matching wood steering wheel, be the only person with a matching wood steering wheel and turn stalk.
Option two would be to try 3D print a two piece replacement that gets sandwiched on and epoxied. You could then coat it in plasti-dip or something if you still wanted the rubber feel. |

Thanks for the ideas!
I did consider caving a replacement out of oak... it would look great. Still hoping there is an off the shelf replacement option out there.

West System G/Flex is one of the best epoxies you could try for something like this, it allows some flex as opposed to most rock-hard fast-set epoxies. But if the aged knob material is weak, it could just break again next to the epoxy. Gorilla Glue sets by reacting with moisture (from the air, or dampened wood) and expands as it sets, so it may widen the crack in the knob a bit.
An oak carving might just look fantastic, would love to see it if you end up going that route. |

I may be looking right past it but I don't see it in the parts listed in the link Harry sent.
That link is for 74-89... my car is a 72. I see the entire switch, my switch still works perfect, I'm looking for just the rubbery tip that's epoxied on from the factory or switch supplier. One drive and several uses of the Gorilla glued original seems to be holding, as UROParts noted the entire rubber cover is likely to fail in some other spot. Mine broke when I flashed the headlights at my nephew as he was going past me. If someone sees a part # for just the rubbery tip of the signal switch please let me know! Many thanks!!!

Awesome gents!!!
Thank you, Thank you! I may still try to carve one out of oak, but now I have a fall back plan... it's bound to fail again...
