Strange Idle

I started my car up recently after the winter months. Can someone tell me why I couldn't get it to idle until I took off the oil cap. Put the oil cap back on and it oscillates and then dies. Last fall I had the manifold boots and gaskets replaced and after that, at times when started cold, it would hunt for a steady idle. Don't know if the mixture was set incorrect or I need to change the idle. Any idea's appreciated.

Thanks Kevin

I'd say your mixture is too rich and letting the additional air in thru the cap leaned it out enough to run well.

Thanks for the replys, I leaned out the mixture and sure purrs like a kitten now. Time to drive around, it's been 4 months in Wisconsin since the weather has been good and 60 degree days in March are hard to come by.

Thanks again!

Kev, do you have a pop off valve in place?? Lean mixture will make her pop.
