Hi Everyone.
i am facing a little issue after an engine swap of my dear old 1974 911. the engine in the car was a bit too boring, so i went for a 3.2 from around 1986 or 87, i dont remember exactly. below is the plug where i am pretty sure the problem is. ![]() ![]() the picture is of an 78 turbo, but i think, and hope its the same on my 74??? ![]() at the moment i get a light for hot oil (red bulp) constant light. plus there is not RPM showing, its completely dead. i know the two plugs even they look exactly the same, have some difference in the wirings... but im strugling to find the differences.!! funny thing is that i found a page on the forum where a person had a very simple hand made drawing of the plug, showing the two cables i had to move. but now i cannot find it anymore. ![]() so is there someone in here that could guide me a bit? ![]() Last edited by SvenT16; 03-13-2019 at 01:21 PM.. |

so the first photo was the wrong one, but here is another one. these two plugs gets connected in the engine bay. inside these two plugs, you can move the wires.... but which one is the correct to move? engine is from 87 and car from 74 previous engine 2.7 new engine 3.2 ![]() ![]() |

Sven - were you perhaps a bit under prepared when you made this swap? When putting a 3.0 into a 2.7, you just move a couple of pins around in the 14 pin connector that is attached to the chassis. Otherwise it is CIS to CIS, pretty much.
The 3.2 doesn't have warmup regulators, or aux air devices, but the DME does need to tell the injectors when to inject, and the spark coil when to spark (the distributor just distributes - it is otherwise fixed). A guy would want to have the wiring diagram for the 2.7, and for a 3.2 to work out what can be swapped, and what might need extra wiring. For instance, the tach signal for the 3.2 comes from the DME, not from the points as it did on your 2.7. The Kroon guys obviously have worked this out. Using your 2.7 main wiring cable from the dash/front trunk back to the right side of the engine might be tricky. |

Are you using the 3.2 DME wiring harness?
Here is the pinout I used for my 1973-1986 engine swap. It may help you out. I eliminated all the connections with red boxes over them. I made a new electrical console along with fuel filter mount. I removed the 1986 electric fan and used 1973 engine tin to backdate the heat, so pin 13 was not used on mine. Pins 3 and 4 seem to have been swapped from 1973 according to the above 2.7 diagram. For the tachometer, I used the Bk/V wire from the 1986 harness. It worked on my 1973 tachometer, don't know if it will work on other years. The 1986 engine uses an internal regulator, so the earlier connections with external regulators are not used. ![]()
