Lighting Question H4 Conversion

Hello,

I am working on changing over my sugar scoops on my 1981 911SC.

I have a few questions in which I am not sure of and I havent found the answer - maybe someone here knows..

Currently I am in possession of a Magnetti Marelli EURO labeled H4 with a black ring - The part number is LPE480. This is an AL stickered lamp as Automotive Lighting is a subsidiary of Magneti Marelli.

The dilemma is that I need to purchase another lamp and the prices are pretty steep for the black ring units.

My question to the forum is there anything different in the MM chrome units vs the black units?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Headlight-Assembly-H-4-European-with-Chrome-Rim-without-Bulbs-Magneti-Mare/153269888700?hash=item23af98e6bc:g:s5sAAOSwqnlb9K2 0

The listing notes a different size between the chrome (9.9 x 9.6 x 7.8) and weight (3.1lbs) vs the black size (10.5 x 10.5 x 8.7) and weight (3.6 lbs).

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Headlight-Assembly-H-4-European-with-Black-Rim-Magneti-Marelli-LPE480-911-63/352521592704?hash=item5213ec9f80:g:hYAAAOSw-FRb9K1-

I figured I could order a separate black ring to replace the chrome..

I am trying to understand what the difference is (besides the color of the ring)? I assume there is nothing and maybe the dimensions and weight are in error but several vendors note the same differences. Cross references always come back to 0301800103 or 91163111302 (black) and 0301800101 or 91163111300 (chrome). Before I drop $400 I wanted to make sure I am not missing anything.

If you get the chrome ringed lights you don't want to replace the rings. That would mean taking the assembly apart and that is a pain.
The simple solution is they make a trim ring that covers the chrome ring and is held on by a single screw on the bottom. Part number is 911-631-141-00

I would suggest buying new trim rings (they come in primer) and save some prep time.

Chrome headlight rings are available... 91163193300 (requires disassembly as quicksilver notes)
