I took the induction off a complete 2.2 S MFI engine years ago and set it aside. Recently while organizing some TBs and stacks, I measured up the top and bottom dimensions to confirm 2.2 S specs and they confirmed...basically 38mm top (to stacks) and 36mm bottom (to heads).
They do not look molested/enlarged ...very original. Old dirty and free moving, but original. Part numbers however reflect a 2.2 E? Obviously it is possible that at some point in time they were machined...and just difficult to confirm. On the other hand as these came off an original looking 2.2 S induction, whats the chance of a mixed up casting for a 2.2 E getting machined at the factory to 2.2 S specs? Weird stuff happened "back in the day", just haven't seen this before. And I have seen lots of sets of mag TBs and stacks "massaged" and it is pretty easy to tell...usually too nice or a crappy job.
It really doesn't matter now...they are what they are. Perfectly functional, just an incorrect casting number.
