911 engine code
I have a 1969 911 that was equipped with a factory crate motor that was intended to be used as a spare engine for an SCCA race team, but never used. The code stamped on it is 6197167. I am not sure if the engine was modified by race team or built to spec from the factory. Seems very strong, less than 3000 miles according to prior owner. Car sat in his heated garage for over 40 years. Trying to get info on this engine without taking it apart. Looks like an S motor.

6197167 should be a type 901/16 engine, a 911T for the USA. Look for the engine type stamp and a build # to the right and back of the the serial stamp. Please report the build # for me; it should be in the high 25xxx range. I cannot imagine why a SCCA team would want the lowest power engine as a spare.

A picture may help.
What type of induction does it have? Iron cylinders? In reality, a tear down is the only way to find out what the true specs are.
