Can a 915 mechanical speedometer be converted to electronic?

Sure.

Basically what you could do is attach a flying magnet to the Inner CV flange, and mount a Hall effect sensor nearby to pick up the signal. Then read that signal with an Arduino, and use that to drive a stepper motor in a Speedo.

That’s basically what I’m doing in my 76.

Are you trying to put an older 915 in a newer car? What years? You may have other issues beside the speedo.

I did this in my 1975 car. I simply purchased an auto meter GPS sensor, and plugged it into an electronic Speedometer for my 911. It gives me really accurate speed, and works perfect.
