Source for proper heavyweight engine compartment sound pad?
I've purchased a few different ones (aftermarket and factory replacement) over the years and basically these have all been useless for the intended purpose, they are basically a lighweight foam with a vinyl skin on one side. Good for hiding the glue mess and easy to install, but scientifically speaking I would say no better than nothing at all for blocking engine noise.
I'm looking for a proper, heavy, pad, like was originally installed on my 87. I'll give up a pound or two to quieten things down a bit.

Once in a while I get lucky and find one at worldpac. Usually get the gray foam ones with a black coating, but sometimes the original style comes . Same part number, so you never know what you're going to get.

I don't know if this is any better but it's a bookmark I have waiting for the seal/clutch replacement. I tore the bits of the crispy one out but not going to attempt a replacement until there is room for my big mitts.
Can't post the URL as it's probably violating usage rules for PP. Check out Aasesales if that's allowed? Last edited by DNickel; 04-24-2019 at 07:47 AM.. |

Thanks all, I should have checked our host before posting the question - they have a few different listings and one is described as "heavier weight" and has a correspondingly hefty shipping weight.
Will report back.

The rosepassion ones are the early type, more like heavy felt. You need the heavy rubber skinned one, correct?

(EDIT/PS - that's a nice tidy engine compartment! The 3.2 can really be cleaned up by removing a few things!)

Then I tore my 1982 SC spare car parts to bits it had a big sound pad thing that went under the carpet and seats in the back of the car. Heavy, but I bet it worked to keep tire noise from the back wheels down as well as the engine plus exhaust.
