Wing mirror wire identification

Hi Guys
Trying to revert a 1987 930 ROW Porsche back to original spec including installing 'Flag Mirrors'.

The 6 wires to the left door are:
2x Brown
Grey w/green stripe
White w/brown stripe
Black
Green

The Flag mirrors I bought are:
7 wire and 5 wire
Assume 7 wire is Left mirror:
2x white
Blue
Brown
Black
Black w/grey stripe
Grey w/green stripe

I am assuming I have bought the wrong flag mirrors?

Can I use these and is there a way to wire them up, or am I stuffed!

(just had to edit this, as had the wires listed incorrectly)

Any help appreciated
Kind regards
Ben

Yes, I believe you are "stuffed". LOL You need a set of the later mirrors,
I believe they changed in "86. The internal motor mechanism is completely different (much improved) and the wiring setup for the mirror and the chassis is also completely different. Sorry to have to verify it!
I have a set of Aeros I am adapting to my '82SC, and the wiring adaption can be done, but it is a nightmare.
Suggest you resell your older style mirrors and acquire a later set.

Thanks for the bad news!
I have been hunting around for alternatives and it seems there are not many options (locally in Europe) for post 86 flag mirrors
Can anyone confirm how difficult the wiring change would be?
I am delivering the car to a classic Porsche Garage on Thursday to start the works and so really need a viable solution

Many thanks for any additional advice
regards
Ben

I have the factory manual.

Would that help?

Thanks for the reply.
- I am not sure if this will help?
If the wiring is different, are there different internal components to the mirrors?

I am hoping that there is a simple 'workaround' to this issue
Maybe someone has already addressed this?

Kind regards
Ben

Ben,
Here's the two types of mirrors. The one on the left is the early style and has one motor and an internal solenoid latch mechanism to change direction (L to R) vs (UP to Down).

The later style on the right (that you need) has a two motor system and a different way of attaching the mirror glass.
If you have a Bentley Carrera manual, go to page 660-2 to see the info on the later mirror.

Hi Uwanna
Thanks for this confirmation.
Guess I am stuffed!

Unfortunately the Flag mirrors seem in short supply this side of the pond and I guess the latter 86-89 even shorter supply due to number of cars made?

Thanks for the help.

I did have a Bentley's manual years ago, but sold it with my '86 Ragtop' Carrera when I though I was getting out of Porsche ownership.
Cheers
Ben

Hi uwanna

Is there a way of telling what 'guts' a mirror will have - or do you have to remove the mirror?
Is this easy to do without breaking the mirror?

It seems the part numbers on a mirror body do not tell you what the mechanism is?
Correct?

I have delivered my car to the workshop to have items fitted and am trying to find the correct mirrors to suit my car.

I cannot even verify what number or colours the wires should be in the right side door?

I have the wires colours for the Left side door so this is a start!
Green
Brown (2)
Grey with Green stripe
White with Brown Stripe
Black

Any help appreciated

- who thought it would be so hard - and how many people are selling mirrors off cars which they have no idea what year the Flag mirrors pertain to
(most list 1974-89, which is incorrect/impossible!)

There is a very easy way to determine whether you have a single or dual motor late mirror assy. there is a small hole on the bottom of both mirrors. On the old style it's just a drain hole, but on the newer style
the hole allows you to insert a small screwdriver blade to release the mirror glass piece. The glass piece has little nubs on a retainer ring that will release the glass when the ring is rotated by the screwdriver blade. Here is a pic of the glass showing the retainer ring (pic of an Aero mirror glass, but the old mirror is the same setup.) So to determine old vs new mirror, look with a light in the little hole for the
retainer ring, or stick a small screwdriver in the hole and feel around
for the locking ring nubs.

Here's a thread that addresses the procedure, albeit for an Aero mirror, but same procedure applies
Taking apart Aero-Mirrors

If you can find someone with a Bentley Carrera manual, you'll find some instructions for the procedure and a wiring color chart on pgs 660-2 and 660-3

Can I just buy the motor assemble and retro fit it to my old mirrors already purchased?

Just finding it hard to find the right 'older' mirror

What you say makes sense, just need to find the right mirror or retro fit the mirrors I have!
Thanks
Ben

Wiring diagram?

Does anyone have a wiring diagram to show expected colours of wires and their function for an '87 model 911?

I am getting unusual colours for vendors wires which do not correspond to mine.

I only looked at the Left/drivers side door and had:

Green
Brown (2)

Grey/Green stripe
White/Brown Stripe
Black

Thanks in advance
Ben

I’m reassembling mirrors on my 87. The 6 wire connector and wire color I have correspond with yours. Interesting that Bentley shows this wiring scheme for 84-85 model year. See chart:
