Getting starter out?
Any tips for getting the starter out?
I've removed the wiring and the two barrel nuts. Rorated the engine slightly back and forth, but it won't pull out and I don't want to pry it.. Is there something else? Oh, and now that I;ve forgotten to pay attention to which lead the larger trigger wire goes to, which one please?

Rubber mallet or plastic deadblow hammer ... right-angle blows at side of forward starter body. Not on the solenoid.
As for the 'trigger' lead ... do you mean the #50 -- Yellow lead from the starter switch??? Only one of the small terminals will work, as the other one is connected to the special second set of contacts for the CIS startup enrichment solenoid ... not connected until solenoid is energized! It won't hurt trying the incorrect terminal ... your starter just won't engage, so move to the other one if the first try doesn't work!

Warren, gotcha...
So do I just spread hi-temp lube on the selenoid shaft? (and Ron, much more like a bad dream right now... 5 months of careful engine rebuilding to end up here...)

Chris,
I always clean the solenoid plunger/shaft with CRC Brakleen, and then clean/polish/burnish with Scotchbrite. Likewise with the rocker/connecting link, and then apply moly grease liberally to the entire length of the solenoid plunger and pivot and ends of the link.

and the crazy solenoid routine is when the solenoid movable core probably expands under heat, only an opnion on this.. anyway the old grease gets beat and hinders the big slide.. keep your sense of humor on this one.. stay away from sledge hammers and chain saws for awhile............ Ron

Seems to move fairly easily now. I can rotate the starter with two fingers,.
Cleaned the ground strap contacts for the battery, the starter contacts, etc... The signal wires both connect to the same point... Is this the right starter for an SC?
