Show me your Widebody Targas
Happy Thanksgiving all!
I did a search and nothing came up so thought I would post. Years ago when they were worth nothing and nobody liked them I had a '73T MFI 911 with a widebody conversion (my first 911). Sense that time I've been fortunate to have had a few more widebodies, all coupes. I've always liked the Targa open top and always been a fan of the widebody, but they don't always go well together. The lines can be a bit awkward depending on the color of the car, color of the Targa bar, type of fenders, stance, wheels, tail treatment, etc. I've got the itch to do another widebody conversion on a Targa and if I do I want to get it right. That being said, I've seen a few widebody Targas on this forum but wanted some intput into what your guys have done and your impressions of the final product. Here's a shot of my hotrod from back in the day. ![]() ![]()

How 'bout a widebody 76 Targa converted to cab? I'm happy with the look except for the wrong late wheels that underwhelm the wide fenders...
Sorry can't add photo right mow for some reason! Last edited by Jemal; 11-26-2020 at 12:54 PM.. Reason: add photo |

Nice! 3.6L? The lines look good with the duck tail and front bumper. That is one of the things I considered, duck tail vs no tail.
Sorry, cabs are not an option. Prefer the rear glass with Targa top over the completely open cab.

There is a real ‘89 turbo targa on ebay for reference. I’ve always preferred the targas over coupes.

These all look pretty nice! I'm thinking it may be consistency in the theme. Some I've seen combine different ques from different production models that may not go well together. I remember back in the day turbo widebody mods were very popular, so much so that any time I saw a widebody Targa I assumed it was not a real 930. It looks like attitudes towards those cars are changing IF the conversion was done to a high standard. Many I recall were not ...

Nice wheels! Black paint with a black Targa bar seems to blend the lines pretty good. 930 fenders on G-body cars give the M491 look which to me looks good. How about the early cars? What fenders and Targa bar treatment would look most appropriate and blend best?
