Floor Jack Question for youz all.......

So was looking into getting a low profile floor jack recently.... I dont need it righr away or very often BUT I would to have one.

Looked on OFFER-UP and also looked on LETGO...... but just a tiny bit concerned about buying on that might fail, makes me a bit uneasy, EVEN THOUGH I WOULD ALWAYS USE JACK STANDS.

So this weekend HARBOR FREIGHT has a memorial day weekend sale and they have this one for 59.00 bones.

It looks like a good deal..... anyone buy one of these before? is the quality ok?

Those are OK, but a little wimpy. Their larger one would be a better choice. This one only raises to 14".

My neighbor had one, lasted about a year.
It was used quite often and towards the end it kept slowly sinking.

For about $50 more you can pick up the 3 ton low profile floor jack, a bit heavier but seems to be more stable.

Spend the extra ans get a 3 ton! Costco had some nice Alcan’s for $99

I purchased this from Harbor Freight around 10 years ago for under $100. It's been great and wouldn't trade it for anything. If you are just using it in your garage you don't really need aluminum, get steel. Also you want low profile.[

I'd also recommend a steel one, they are much more stable. Unless you plan on throwing it in the trunk and taking it with you to a lot of places, then I'd go aluminum. But steel if you are just rolling it around the garage.

They have come out with some different versions recently, but I would stick with the original "Super Duty" version that has been out for a couple years or potentially try their "long reach" version.

Note, there is a 3 year warranty on the Super Duty jack.

That aluminum $59 jack is definitely wimpy. I have one, and although it is useful for some things and very light, I would not want it as my only jack. Max lift is too low, and it feels like one of these days it isn't going to lift. Now that I think about it, I had another one of these, and that's exactly what happened after just a few months.

Both were gifts, I wouldn't buy one myself.

I have their 1.5T floor jack as a backup in my garage, have had it for maybe 5 years without issue. I have their 2T aluminum low profile jack in my trailer for use at the track, has never failed me. But I wouldn't use either to try to lift more than a light 911. I have a 20 year old 3.5T steel Craftsman jack to raise my SUV's and that's what I use to put engines in 911s too. Old school Craftsman made in the USA quality.

I'd check the Harbor Freight 2T low profile for weekend sale prices, they typically go on sale for $79.

I was at Lime Rock today for TransAm and SVRA and saw many respectable teams using HF jacks. It seems they are definitely an accepted part of the mainstream now. John

I have two HF jacks. I use them a lot and they last about 2 years and then things start to warp, or bend, or you know stuff that can kill you. So, when these are gone, I am going to spend some serious money and buy some real quality jacks, you know, stuff that last and will not kill you.

I have had a Costco Alcon jack for years. Heavy but great for all my cars. The only only downside is that I cannot get it under my Z4 (the Z4 lift points raise either the entire front or rear from a central point and allow me to use the factory outboard jack points for my jack stands) without first jacking up the side with my 1 1/2 ton HF racing jack.

I also use my HF Racing jack for small jobs where a second jack is helpful or changing tires at the track.

My old Snap On jack started to leak, couldn't find anyone to fix it so I just bought this on Wednesday. Phenomenal jack, can't say enough good things about it.

The jack in the OP I would get just to pick up one tire, nothing more than that. The bigger aluminum jacks seem nice.

I've had this Arcan XL2T for a while and I really like it. Some tools I'll try to save money but stuff like jacks I want something that is higher quality. I paid around $200 for it at Northern Tool but here's an Amazon link:

Look at it this way, it's only $60. As long as you use jack stands, almost anything would serve your purpose.

Now, for "green flag pit stops" the Brunnhoelzl was the jack of choice. BUT, it's expensive and it wasn't a good choice for shop use. As a matter of fact, we wouldn't even use it in the pits, only on the other side of the wall.

I have the jack shown in original post, overall functional. It is my second or spare jack and is used as addition to my larger jack when needed. I would not recommend as a primary jack, as it is not nearly strong or secure enough. If you are seeking a primary jack
HF has some nicer larger models. Just installed a 911 engine with the larger version.

Like others I have that HF jack. I blew it out when removing an old formica counter top for replacement. It fell under their warranty and HF gave me a new jack. Replacement jack still running strong!

I have the 3 ton version of that style of jack. It works great, and lifts to 19 1/2". You might want to upgrade like is mentioned in some of the posts on this thread.
