Passenger Side Power Window no workie.

This is on a 87 911.

The driver side window works fine. I replaced all three switches with new ones. I took a multi-metre to the passenger switch and both blue wires and both red wires have 12V.

Is that normal? How does this switch work? I looked at the wiring diagram in the Bentley manual and I don't understand why they have power with the switch in the neutral position. When both blue wires are disconnected from the switch, they both have 0V, but when I connect one, they both have 12V.

I was going to take the motor out, but the instructions say to lower the window mechanism, but without power, the window is stuck up.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Stacy

It's probably the motor. Whack on the inner door panel a few times while operating the switch. If it works, keep cycling it until the brushes reseat against the commutator.

Thanks. I have the door card off, so I can whack on the motor itself.

I've read in some other threads about a Torx bolt that can be used to manually wind the window up/down but I don't see it on this car, so maybe introduced in 89?

Me too.... pretty common I hear. I plan on taking a wack at it tonight. By wack I mean a hammer to the motor case.

You will need to cut & paste the factory manual.

Best,

Thanks Gerry. By looking at that wiring diagram, it looks like 12v on the blue wire with the switch in the neutral position is correct.

I tried whacking the motor, no love. Looks like the motor may be kaput.

Have you verified that the brown wire has good connectivity to ground?

I tested the power on the red/blue wires using brown as the ground for my multimeter. Is there a different test I should do?

I have an issue related to ground; my driver side switches don’t work.

If I hard jump them to the door frame, everything works just fine.

I am very confused!
