Oil line removal....ouch!!
Removed the old oil cooler and lines this week, and yes, tore off the threads on the thermostat....well I didnt' the dealer did. I took it to them so they could have the liability....then they charged me 1/2 hour and handed me back CRAP!.
anyhow, I have bought the Thermostat savers...hope they work, but can I save the threads on the lines? anyone? ANyone? Bueler? |

getting that aluminum out of the threads of the line nuts is about impossible. you could try picking it out with an awl type tool, but it gets bonded to the steel and sometimes it's best to just replace the line. normally, the way to save the t/stat threads is to split the nut on the line, which would require line replacement anyway.

Remember to put some Nevr-Seize on all the threads when you re-assemble. What the damn factory should have done in the first place!

Take out the thermostate, have the new saver welded on over the old fitting , and replace the line.

You may want to try cleaning the nuts with imbedded aluminum threads thoroughly with degreaser ... then carefully suspend just the nut in a glass jar of Muriatic acid for a few minutes ... all of the cadmium plating (if still left) will be removed, but the acid will dissolve the aluminum and leave clean steel threads,too!
