Thanks for the shifter tips, jakermc. BTW, I've worked on every car I've ever owned for the past 13 years, and I typically have at least one small problem every time (see above references to broken wheel lugs and broken air box bracket).

The soft sockets are nice, but in a pinch you can use a standard 6 point socket and wrap the lug nut with a plastic bag before putting the socket on.
The bag will help to soften the impact on the nut and protect the finish. You have to use a different part of the bag every time. Sometimes I'll double or triple up on the bag depending on how tight the socket fits. it's a pain in the butt and every time I do it I swear I'm going to buy a soft socket but I never do. |
