Cat Heat Shield
My 87 has a SS heat shield below the catalytic converter. Is this stock? Would this shield result in retained heat and increased engine temps? Engine does not run hot.

heat shield on cat usually is there to prevent setting dry grass on fire if you should so happen to park on some. It should not increase engine temp. Keeping cat hot is a good thing. It helps to clean the air.

Thanks. I don't usually drive on dried grass. Just concrete and asphalt here in Calif.

It also keeps your tire from getting grilled. There is even a little heat shield around one side of the O2 sensor to protect the tire.

It also reflects quite a bit of heat back onto the inside of the rear fender, not good for paint longevity.

Mine fell off over a year ago and I never bothered to reattach it. As of now I have yet to notice any impact to the car.
Note: I also avoid parking or driving in tall grassy fields so this could be influencing my feelings
