Oil level sender - bench test

I’ve read the maintenance/repair thread. I want to know if there is a way to test the unit or car wiring with a multimeter.

My gauge always reads “empty”. I have the unit out and disassembled/reassembled it. It looked ok (no broken wires along the face). I can peg the gauge by removing ground. Hooked everything back up and gauge still reads empty while moving the bobber.

Just want to be sure before paying for a new one.

Todd

The resistance of the sender (ohms) will/should vary according to the position of the float. It's about that complicated...

Yeah, I had gone back and checked a few things on the sender after my original post. Nothing definitive, but I was getting no resistance when bench testing (hence my original question), but after de-reading some of the other thread I did test resistance using the back of the unit where the rivet is and I do get a reading. Might try to re-rivet and see.

Thanks
Todd
