Electrical Issue

I have a 1971 911T targa. Car has been great for a long time. After a long run last Sunday, the car sat until Friday, when I was about to go to a show. Turn key, nothing happens. No lights! No crank nothing. Check battery, OK. Kept jiggling key and most of the time nothing, but occasionally red light came on and I could turn on radio. At times gauges would flick on. But never lights, parking or dim. Press emergency flasher and sometimes a noise behind dash.

I am thinking ignition switch. Any ideas? I appreciate any feedback.

Best wishes,
John

If the same as my 69', check fuse position 1; the fuse, fuse holder and most importantly the screw clamps for the source (battery) wire on one side and the ignition switch circuit on the other side. If an open circuit appears here, power distribution is nil.

A voltmeter would be a handy tool to check for available voltage and/or where it stops abnormally.

‘70 is a direct run from the battery to the 6 pin connector and then to the switch.
Check for loose battery positive terminals on the 3 reds going to it.

Thank you for your suggestions!

Hi folks -- I will follow through on your suggestions tomorrow, once this very hot weather in Ohio breaks, I will let you know what I find out.

Note that structure in the photo background is not mine!

Talking Thank you for your suggestions!

I'll get to them as soon as it rolls down, probably Monday. Attached is a photo of the car. Note that I do not own the structure in the background!
