Installing fogs on long hood
Planning on installing my newly acquired fog lights on my 1969 E but this ugly mess needs sorting first; does anyone have a photo of what an unmolested fog light bracket should look like so I can bend these back to the right shape/position?

Regardless of its bent condition, the 69-73 used Hella 139 fog lights which were more rectangular and slightly larger than the 128s used in earlier cars. Additionally, they mounted with a hollow bolt that extended straight out from the center of the back of the light and was secured thorough a hole that was in the center of the bracket in the bumper. Your bumper shows no hole in the center to fit the light, but you can see part of a hole at the top of the bracket which would hold the 90* bolt of a 128 light. However you straighten the bracket, there needs to be a mounting hole in-line with the bolt of the fog light.

Not a real close shot, but maybe you can see the correct form they should take. Many years ago I mounted 139s on my 69 and I vaguely remember drilling a hole for the mounting bolt in the center of the bracket, but not sure.

Tedious....yes I anticipate it not being enjoyable.
I have the 139's, these holes will work as long as my bending skills are good enough. Thanks for the assistance Rob |

So an hour or so of bending the brackets with a 3 foot threaded rod; here's the results. Hard to imagine what happened to get them so out of shape...thanks again for the help.

Doesn't look like a good fit. I think ossiblue has it right. Are you sure you have the correct valance for your fog lights? Or more to the point, do you have the correct fog lights for your valance?

The lights are correct, 139's (or 169's) are correct for a 1969, however you could be right on the valance. It's hard to see as it's been so badly butchered (the other is just as bad) but I think mine has the middle fold and 2 holes that all of the pictures shared show.....I do have more bending to do though.

Keep in mind, this is all from memory.
As I stated earlier, I installed 139s on my 69 but I'm still not sure if I drilled a center hole. After looking at the last pictures, I don't believe I did. 139 fogs stick out more from the opening than earlier, SWB base 128s and I very well may have used one of the existing holes which offsets the lights to the outside. Again, not sure. My only concern, looking at the last post, is the lights seem too low, but that may just be the angle of the photo. Here's a picture of Steve McQueen's 1970 S.
