Thoughts on foglight wiring problem?

I'm trying to change my fog lights so work independently of the headlights, but still work with the fog light switch and still shut off with the ignition. In other words, I want to use them as DRLs.

LED Brake Lights

I followed the instructions here and it's consistent with my read of the wiring diagram. However, that didn't do the job. What it did was cause my headlights to come on with the ignition regardless of switch position.

I then tried pulling each lead off the headlight switch other than the hot from the ignition switch. None of them interrupted power to the fog lights. At that point, I went forward to the fuse box. Fuse #21, fog lamps, did interrupt power to them. Fuse #20, fog light switch, did nothing and in fact has no wire at all on the bottom clamp.

What I didn't do was pull out the foglight switch, mostly because I need to remove the head unit and lacked the ambition for that.

The car is an 86 Carrera made in Sept of 85. I'm also seeing signs of other wiring that's non OE.

Pablo, I use my fogs as DRLs and they use switched-on power, so they go on and off with the ignition, or the switch independent of the headlights. I used this thread: Running Fog Lights only....

Since Search sucks on this forum, I use the Google main page and select Settings, then Advanced Search, then use the key word search boxes and then copy the Pelican 911 Tech Forum URL into the Site or Domain field and hit search. You can find virtually anything on this or other sites using this method.
