Olive Green Keep the trim Chrome or go Black
1974 Olive Green Porsche build . Should I keep the trim chrome(or whatever the factory called it) or powder coat it black? My wheel choice of course will be dependent on the color of my trim.
What do you all think? Personally it would be easier to keep it chrome but figure while the car is apart now is the time to make the change. The last picture of the Ruf 993 was the original motivations. Thanks, |

I was going to say chrome... then I saw the Ruf- man, that black looks good on it, but your car is older, so chrome may be the best look.
Yup, Im of no help! Love the color though

Chrome looks great as an accent to the paint

CBA,
Man I love a blacked out trim/wheel package on that Ruf! But for a older car may I suggest looking into doing a satin or brushed finish on the trim. Check out Cerakote’s website for some of their color offerings. A darker satin silver or magnesium color might look very cool as well as stick out as a nice unique look reminiscent of the old bright work. Plus the coatings are super tuff and would be easier to finish then having items chromed. https://www.cerakote.com/finishes/?tab=coatings&cat=HSERIES&color=cgsilver https://www.cerakote.com/finishes/?tab=coatings&cat=CSERIES&color=cgsilver CTopher |

I am so glad I am not making this decision. I think either way with that beautiful paint it will be great. I do love the idea of a satin finish or a nickel finish. Good luck deciding.

![]() Doesn't help with the color decision, but my car has the same EB Motorsports front and rear bumpers and I went with bright work. |

Bright trim makes it look less like an old military vehicle IMO.

Go bright. Your amazing color has a vintage flavor which bright work would nicely compliment.

They say once you've had black you can't go back. Well I guess you could but it would be lots of disassembly paint stripping etc.

+ 1 on the Cerakote, at least for black. I did Cerakote for all my trim and I expect it to long outlast me (unlike the original anodize / paint).
Not sure what the Cerakote shiny finishes look like. I'd ask them for samples. That said, I'm firmly in the brightwork camp!

If you go black, don't use powder, use Cerakote. Powder is thick and ugly. Whoever does the Cerakote, make sure they do 3 coats/bake cycles for both finish and lifetime durability.
Bright is just anodized aluminum. If your car came with painted frames, chances are good they can't be anodized, at some point Porsche switched to a cheaper, porous alumium that doesn't anodize (aesthetically) well. They do have a slight different profile so easy to tell the difference between the two. Satin black Cerakote ![]() ![]() ![]()
