Hypothetically: How much boost to 2.4T =) ?
This is theoretical...still.
I am building EFI for my 2.4T and after the EFI is complete, turboing/supercharging would be easy. I am only wondering how much boost could one put to stock (well, SSI and EFI) 2.4T, I heard that 0.5bar is something that stock engines can handle. It would be quite nice to have like 180-200hp on a 2.4T :) The compression ratio is quite low on this engine so this would be suitable for little boost? Would it not? |
hmmh..nobody knows...But wouldn't this be ideal because its such a low compression engine? What makes the engines fail if turboed, i mean people make these engines S spec and they can handle the HP just fine.

start with .5 bar and watch your exhaust temp. when santa claus buys you an intercooler, shim the gate.
turbos fail from heat, the oil line coking up and bad driving. you must squeeze the go pedal. large throttle opennings at low engine speed put a side load on the pistons and make them go egg shaped. my 0.02 |
I though about doing this with my old 2.4T w/MFI. The cylinders are steel so they should be pretty tuff. What I don't know is if the case and bottom end would be up for it. Seems 0.5bar wouldn't hurt.

from the (limited) reading i've done pretty much any engine will handle .5 boost (think this should be 5psi).
why not get yourself some suitable reading material - "maximum boost" is good. |
0.5 is still a good amount of boost... Remember the 930 ran with .8
I would start lower. How much boost can it handle? The answer is really how much boost can you afford to give it... |
Gotta find some stuff to read. ALthough...think about it.
2.4T EFI Turbo Intercooler Nobody would come and say: "Ah, its only a mere T" |
A lot of details on my custom 3.0 SC turbo here.
