What dimension are you looking for? The problem is when I post a jpg, Pelican shrinks the picture. Maybe someone can link to a better file. For example this is 3264 pix wide on my computer.

Those look like non-turbo trailing arms that have been relocated rearward and upward at the forward pickup point due to new mounting brackets.
You will likely find it easier to relocate the flare opening than to undo all that custom suspension fab work. IMO the longer wheel base by moving rear wheels back is a GOOD thing. |
Either way you’re in for some work to get that wheel in the right place.

If you’re going to fit new flared arches for wider tyres then maybe you can push those backwards and fill in the rest?. You can fill in the torsion bar hole while you’re at it.
|
Leave the torsion bar hole. Cut the QP behind the torsion bar hole. Offset cut the new flare and then slide it back. Plenty of metal to make up one inch there. Challenge will really be aligning the curvature of the top of the QP/flare.

Let's try again.

New YouTube video is live! Replacing quarter panels on your 911:
https://youtu.be/qycXDigWHEA Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Hey dudes. I have two new videos. One comes out tomorrow.
My latest video about the abandoned 1969 Porsche 911s race car that I'm converting back into a street car. This video is about fitting and installing the rear decklid latch panel, but first I have to cut and grind away the race-modified rear engine quick release mounts. This is the 6th video in the series, so if you're looking for some cool Porsche content to binge on, now's your chance. Latch Panel, video 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EejDXRjhu_g And here's the link to the whole playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLpd6y-3BC1Z4BJ4KQ36wQDshyliZHyYfM |
Part 2 of my rear latch panel fabrication and install is posted on YouTube: https://youtu.be/ZmAgqKuW0CM

The 993 is the same WB as any 69-89 911. WB was not increased until 996.
RUF has a 993 that they have pushed the front wheels forward, and the rear wheels rearward. The article is here - https://www.excellence-mag.com/issues/240/articles/200-mph-classics He gets the arches correct and it makes the car look much more modern. Might be some inspiration for your rear arches. BTW really enjoy your videos. Are you going SBC V-8? |
Here’s a picture of the 2 WB’s, Orange car is the longer WB.

Passenger Quarter Panel Install
I got my passenger quarter panel trimmed pretty darn close. Am curious about the door gap. Can I dial it in with a little hammer/dolly on the inside if I want to move it a millimeter or two?
Here's the video of the process/install: https://youtu.be/vuqPQLhaorA Some Pics: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1585791506.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1585791506.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1585791506.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1585791506.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1585791506.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1585791506.jpg |
Also..I'm not exactly sure what to do about the existing lead filler. I may need to delete some of it so I can get to the metal to weld it. On the grey ghost, I hit it with a propane torch and it melted away. I'm planning on doing lead filler on this car for the drip rail delete, so I could probably do it here as well.

Cleaned up the welding interfaces.

I just saw this car in person and it's the real deal although I don't envy the amount of work ahead.
And money. But if it turns out to be close to the concept it will be a world class build. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1569462463.jpg |

I'm hoping because it's going to be mostly DIY that it won't be a tremendous amount of money. Famous last words. :) |
I've just uploaded the latest video of my 69 911S Blasphemy Build, where I try to figure out if I can use my flux core welder to patch some unseen body panels.

Posted another video today wrapping up the fabrication and install of the passenger side kidney piece, and rocker panel patches.
I coated the inside with POR15 (thanks Zeke) and then finished it off with my signature pigeon poop welds. First I used my propane torch to burn off the lead filler and give me something solid to weld on. I made a couple of rust repair panels and was able to weld them on before grinding everything down and coating it with POR15. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...fb1f700ea9.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...92904bce9f.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...ae30590f4a.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...2e30180ec5.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...107d557ad2.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...79e9a9092d.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...d0943b7dc4.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...b152a988ee.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...a7f43e5e23.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Today I tackled more chassis restoration, and I had to use a bottle jack to spread my rear frame rails! The full roll cage of this car had "compressed" the frame rails a few mm, and my replacement panel from Restoration Design was a good 1/2" off from being able to be installed.
This was the jack I eventually used, with a 2x4 against the opposite frame rail. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1588184504.jpg I was able to use one of my regular floor jacks as a "proof of concept" and got the piece in for measurement. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1588184504.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1588184504.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1588184504.jpg Quick test fit of the outer rear latch panel piece. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1588184504.jpg |
After welding it on and cleaning up the welds.

If you want to see the video of this whole process, here it is: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/9bfvl7jyTX4" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
I'm just about to fully weld up my quarter panels and rear latch panel. I am borrowing a stock set of right and left bumpers to help dial in my alignment, but I'm curious what the general procedure is for ensuring panel gaps, especially around the doors, are spot on.
Here's where I am at the mo: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1589761335.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1589761335.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1589761335.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1589761335.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1589761335.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1589761335.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1589761335.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1589761335.jpg My plan is to use lead filler where the factory did, but I'm most concerned, like I said, about panel gaps. What are the techniques to dial in my door gaps correctly? |
Just uploaded a video on my quarter panel install!

Great job Michael. Your perseverance is paying off. It's starting to look like a car again.
