Bizarre turn signal behavior
I have a 1986 911 Carrera.
I just noticed that none of the turn signals are working. Dash turn indicators don't light either. Also, the emergency flashers do nothing. When the car is off and I move the signal stalk to either left or right, all four turn signals light. L/R and F/R. Isn't the "normal" behavior is for just one side to light when the stalk is to that side? With the ignition on, none of the signals light up. Fuses and bulbs are good. Any ideas where to start?? ![]()

Flasher Relay failed? Can you hear it flashing/clicking with ignition in run and signals activated?

Where is the flasher relay located?

Not positive for your year, but most are under the cowl in the trunk on drivers side at the dash. Some owners manuals have photos of the location. The Bentley does as well. Behavior: stuck or non op contacts can give multiple symptoms.

If this suddenly started and you hadn't messed with any lighting connections, try a new relay and if that doesn't do it maybe your signal stalk died. They do that.

Heck, I’m only 5 not 71!

The good news is your failure does point to the flasher relay since both the turn signals and emergency flashers are none functioning. It can also be the power source to the relay and the two circuits.

Did you kick or otherwise move one of the 6 pin male plugs under the dash?
Could be as simple as pushing them back into place.

German cars are notorious for bad grounds out in the fixtures. The aluminum bits corrode, resistance increases, and some truly bizarre behavior can result. I'd start by insuring that all the grounds are solid.
