Use the rubber mallet and tap at the engine and transmission mating then they will separate. If after tapping they still not separated use flat screwdriver try to slowly ply them out begin at the starter because near the starter there are little room for flat screwdriver. I just did the same for my 75 911s last week to replace the transmission nose-cone seal.

Did you drop the clutch lever on then bottom of bell housing.
If you did, the trans is free to remove

Are you trying to remove the engine from the car without the transmission? I have heard that professional mechanics can do this, but I have never been able to do it - and I have tried. The few extra minutes that it takes to remove the engine and transmission together saves hours of screaming, crying, and yelling.

If you think removing them separately is hard, just wait until you try and re-install separately.

I definitely recommend removing them together.

I've heard it, too. Use a wide base jack that has a tilt adjustment and a protractor to match the angle of the trans to the angle of the engine and it's rather easy.

John, you do not remove for clutch jobs just the engine?

I think John is referring to the fact that he was the one that told me he removes just the engine all the time. But I know my limitations, and I remove both together.

My last clutch job, I tried to get just the engine out and eventually gave up. Once on the ground, they separated like butter..

pmax..nice floor jack..for my taste a little bulky..i have always used single floor jack either for complete trany engine removal or jsut an engine...
It is all about where you locate the center plate, with mine i can balance trany and engine and it would not move, same goes with the engine once i have it on the jack it stays solid and balanced....again, i only remove engine for most of the jobs ....

Ivan, you misunderstood. I use a simple cheap floor jack. The question was what kind of jack being referred to which has the tilt adjustment. There appears to be some screw type adjustment with a turning knob in the example I posted.

Not meaning to hijack the thread, OP, agree with checking the clutch lever.

I don't know if you will understand me well so there goes! A few weeks ago I did that process! Help me only from a very simple jack bought in one of these typical stores ... The important thing, if you have already accomplished everything, is to align the transmission and the engine well. It was what cost me the most and there I asked my brother for help! It is complicated being a person and only having a cat because when the engine lowers a little without having decoupled the transmission, the "Transmission supports" may make a little force and that makes it difficult for you to separate them. When it is well aligned you will know it because it comes out almost alone! Likewise, have you removed the screw that is left once "the engine is lowered"? Or did you remove it from below?
regards

With experience, removing the engine without removing the transmission isn't all that hard, and saves time - you can leave those CVs alone. You just have to remember to take the shift coupler off the transmission shift shaft.

Without experience, or after bad experiences, it is easier, safer, and quicker all around to pull the two as a unit. Plus a lot easier to get the clutch release lever seated on the throwout bearing on reassembly.

911 race car builders often make custom engine crossbar mounts and modify the rear of the chassis so all that can quickly be removed, and the engine pulled straight back and out without having to lower it until the transmission main shaft is clear of the clutch assembly. But with a street car things are a much closer fit.

I think everyone scared him away.
Will not separate or are they stuck together?

I've only dropped the motor in last 30 years. Never trans and motor together. Not hard to do once you get the hang of it.
