And has anyone replaced the upper velvet door seal on a coupe?

It's the one attached to the body that extends all the down the front of the pillar. I suspect this is causing wind noise. It's #26

How is this seal attached to the body? I can see some rivets under the torn-away velvet. Is it glued?

Its a squared off u shaped rubber and felt thing. I installed new ones with the window frames out, but apparently it can be done with the windows in.

I can't find a (very old) thread where how to was discussed. Basically it involved sliding the lower part of the felt down the channel (soap and water to lubricate), then gluing the top part only.

Two different Velvet Seals

Jkeen and I are referring to two different velvet seals, I think.

The U-shaped seal fits in the window frame, and is described on the Pelican catalog site as:
27 - Coupe Window Channel

This is the U-shaped velvet channel that helps to guide the window as it is being rolled up. If the window is difficult to roll up, it may be because of a worn window channel.

The velvet seal to which I was referring is the one apparently screwed to the body and described as:
26 - Coupe Velvet Upper Door Seal

This is the seal that is made of velvet and mounts to the upper part of the body near the top of the door.

So, can we confirm that #26 is attached with hardware and #27 is glued?

I don't think my '75 has one of those!

I did pull it apart a long time ago (a couple of years)

there's a felt screwed to the body that the window frame closes against. then there's the window felt in the frame. later cars had the extra screwed on felt, coupes only. early ones did not. can't remember when the split was, somewhere around '80 i think.

JKeen,
The window felt is easy peasy to replace without removing anything [provided you can get the old out, and there is no gunge in the tracks].

Start with the two vertical legs of the stuff, and feed them down the track. Take it a few inches at a time, cycling the windows to help it down while you push the noodle down the track. When you get towards the end, take lots of care that the corner cuts in the felt match perfectly to the corners of the track. Might need to jiggle one side or the other to achieve this.

Not sure you need any glue - mine went in and stayed in without.

Velvet Upper Door Seal is Riveted

I'm answering my own question that I posted a few days ago:

At least on my '89, this seal (#26 in the diagram above) is riveted to the body. Anyone have any particular wisdom as to whether these are plain jane aluminum rivets, or something special?

Thanks for your help.
