Exhaust doesn't fit anymore after backdating the rear bumper
I have SSI's with my SC 3.0 engine. My current Dansk Sport 2 in and 2 out 84 mm muffler doesn't fit anymore. Do you have any advice for this dilemma?
I would need some silencer with 2 in and 1 out which would fit behind my bumper.

Thanks, it really looks cool after this backdate procedure. And I do agree with you about the straight pipes, I think that the distance between the pipes would be just perfect. But even noisier than the Dansk I had earlier.

Unless you can modify the bumper/valence (looks to be all one piece) to accommodate a right side tailpipe, you will need a new muffler (2/1).
M&K have a great 2/1 muffler that is perfect for this. It is much lighter than the Dansk, is extremely well made, and sounds fantastic. When I had SSI on my car years ago, I had an M&K, and I still think it was the best my car has ever sounded. They offer this muffler in street and sport configurations, too (I think). Talk to Brian Bodart there; he will help you. https://mkexhaust.com/dual-inlet-single-outlet/ Beautiful car! Lyle.

Early and late cars have different tailpipe locations, but you could probably cap one side, and replace the other tailpipe with one that fits the bumper cutout.

Thanks, Lyle. Just got it painted so I try not to start cutting any sheet metals. That M&K 2 to 1 looks good and the whole tube looks thinner than the Dansk one.
Here's the car from the front.

Yes as stated previously the tailpipe outlets on the early cars are different than the later impact bumper 911's. We have both single or dual out mufflers for your early chassis application.

So here's the thing. The problem is not that I only have one cut out for the exhaust. The silencer itself doesn't have enough space behind that bumper. So would need to buy smaller 2 in 1 silencer. And I'm afraid if I go ahead and buy e.g. Dansk's 2 in 1 I might be facing the same issue while trying to mount the silencer. I hope these below pictures will help.

Thousands of early 911 have SSI and that Dansk 2in/2out muffler.
It doesn't fit due to the lack of another tailpipe cutout, but the muffler itself should physically fit into the factory muffler space. I've had that combo in my '69 for years. Fitment options: 1. Create 2nd tailpipe opening on passenger side bumper. 2. Remove and plug the existing tailpipe openings; add twin pipes to lower middle of muffler ala RS sport muffler 3. Remove passenger side tail pipe and plug; replace driver side tailpipe with smaller pipe to fit. 4. Replace existing Dansk with a 2in/1out sport muffler or equivalent. Sherwood |
