I would like to change the tachometer in my SC to get something similar to this (upright numbers, redline at 12 o'clock & up to 8000 rpm):
![]() I think that the transformation is not as easy as just rotating the tachometer and replacing the dial since the high beam and turn signal indicators would be rotated and in the wrong position. Do I need to get a different tachometer or is there any way to convert the stock one to this configuration? |

Palo Alto speedo or Hollywood can both do that

Isn't there an off the shelf solution I could buy?

I had NHS do mine years ago and it came out great. Will try to get a photo.....that is the ONLY way to accomplish this....of course they also make the internals like new at the same time.

When mine stopped working a year ago I sent it to NHS and had them rescreeen and clock the face as above. It looks great.
Their service wasn't great.

Off the shelf? For rescaling the internals of the gauge? Uh.. No

Looking at the image in my first post, I would guess that the angle between 0 and 8 is slightly less than 90 degrees. However, the angle between 0 and 7 in a stock SC is larger than 90 degrees. This is why I thought that it might be possible to keep the same scale (as measured in needle degrees per rpm) but add the extra numbering up to 8. It could well be that everything is extremely complicated and better to be left to a pro but I would like to know why. ![]() |

You've answered your own question........... "everything is extremely complicated and better to be left to a pro" - 1. Send it to PAS 2. Be happy - |

you can twist the tach in its position to get the redline to the top. Or make a new face and install over the old one with the needle in a new resting position near 5oclock
See here for a face design. Not sure if anyone makes one off the shelf. 84-89 Carrera tach upgrade 0-8K RPMs

I drove for decades with my tach rotated.
I would not have had the face rescreened and the needle clocked if I wasn't getting the tach repaired anyway. It is nice to have the turn signal indicators in the correct position and nobody asks why my tach is screwed up any more. NHS's workmanship was fine. Given their service I would try PAS if I was doing it again.

I just rotated both the tach and speedo and never looked back. When people see it they have to ask and it gets a short conversation started, usually a nice moment. Easy to un-rotate when my "go to the track" days end. Just wanted to see the tach needle at 12:00 for shifting purposes and get the 100 mph range from behind the steering wheel. An actual complete gage update is nice but not necessary for me at this time.

Old thread revival!
The SC tach goes to 7k. NHS told me that going past 7k wears out mechanisms and can cause issues so they can rescale it to have the same sweep but calibrate for 8k to be where 7k currently is. Then you pop on new artwork and they can rotate it to whatever angles you want while in there. This runs between $450-$550. If you want 9k or higher then it costs more because they must replace a board too. I'm revving to 7500 or less so don't need to go past 8 for visual. Besides the first pic in this thread (which looks amazing!) does anyone else have a pic of their modded tacho?

Yes, but it’s the only way I can see 60-90 mph without the steering wheel obstructing the view.
