Steve,

Thanks for the extra photos, great shot of the DeDion tube. They do tend to draw a lot of attention, you don’t see many on the road. I’m sure that has a lot to do with the extremely limited production run. That excludes the cluster ‘f’ that Lamborghini built of course.

The actual build quality of the Vector was truly amazing. The parts list for a W8 would make any auto enthusiasts heart race. I had the pleasure of getting a factory tour when Jerry was still at the helm.

What ever happened to those Vector's? I seem to recall them from the late 80's or early 90's but don't remember what become of them.

Nice pics - thanks.

4 of those cars were at the OCR breakfast meeting this morning, the light blue Ruf clone is one powerful beast. A local P-car guru who goes by the name Lee Rice owns it, I've never seen it with the hood down :-)

Doug,

That is a difficult and confusing question to answer. Basically the owner, Jerry Weigert, was ousted by his shareholders.

New owners, Indonesian royalty moved the company to Florida, and started to produce cars based “a little” on Weigert's ultra extreme WX3 avtech. Using cheaper components and a ZF transmission the M12 came with an engine from one of the owner's other properties - Lamborghini. Needless to say, they didn’t sell very many of the M12 abominations.

The cars pictured above and below are "real Vectors".

In addition to Burnout Donuts....

The new Crystal Cove Plaza in Newport Beach is fast becoming the NEW hangout to show your cars. People are either going there instead of, or after Burnout Donuts. The crowds start at 6 a.m.
It really is a nice place for a gathering. Plenty of parking, it is right on PCH, awesome view of the Pacific. For an organized meeting place it would be perfect. Not too far from the LA or SD crowd to drive to. After, spend the day at the beaches of Newport or Laguna. You could make it a Saturday or Sunday ritual.

OHMYGOD, I hope that Norvin isn't lying in a ditch somewhere...it looks like the owner did the cardinal sin of armor-alling the rear tire...recipie for disaster if you enjoy the twisties!!!!

Hey Steve, I've never heard of this refered to as "Burnout" Donuts.......

I live literally right around the corner...o.k. about a mile away.... and everytime I have ever heard any reference to this Sat morning pilgrimage it's been refered to as "Derilict Donuts".

In fact, if one goes inside the donut shop (Adams ave. Donuts)there are t-shirts & sweatshirts for sale with silkscreened hot rods and the logo "Derilict Donuts" on them.....pretty cool designs, but strictly slanted towards American iron.

cheers!!

There was an article in Car & Driver a few years back (maybe more) about Jerry Wiegert and the Vector(s). Seems that he and the investors did not see eye to eye and things went south from there.

From what I recall, he tried to build a "supercar" with other manufacturer's parts bin parts and custom made parts. Didn't turn out too well. I remember the article in C & D saying that Andre Agassi's (well known successful pro tennis player) car caught on fire as he was leaving, just after purchasing the car. Nice.

I think it is where they built the new Trader Joes between Corona del Mar and Laguna. If you've been in So Cal for a while you would know it as the area right before Scotchman's Cove. You know, the once really nice place that is now overbuilt like the rest of So Cal.
