Drill in 6 mm studs to install SSIs?
I am about to put SSI's on my '83 SC. There are tabs to fit over the 6 mm studs on the crankcase, as in the early cars. My SC crankcase does not have these studs, of course, but it does have the bosses on the crankcase where the studs go. So, it looks like I just drill and tap, however, the boss on one side (left side, as memory serves) is awfully close to the oil gallery. Can anyone give me explicit instructions on how deep to go, and whether this is okay? The engine is a 930/10, i.e., a late Euro motor with the late (no sump plate, or removable oil pickup screen) crankcase, in case that makes a difference.
Thank you. |

I just left mine off when I had SSI's. I didn't have any problems.

I would just join the two tabs with a flat bar.
That way it would give some lateral support. Bob

I had the same issue, Tom.
I drilled mine (nicely centered) to a little less than 0.5", then tapped the hole using a bottoming tap. No problems.
