1980 porsche engine number

I am trying to verify if a 911 porsche either had the 2.7 or the 3.0 could someone please let me know where exactly the numbers will be on the engine? thanks

If you have a copy of my book check the pictures on page 38. If not, look at the approximate 5:00 position of the big cooling fan, then let your eyes move around the corner from that position on the fan housing to a vertical part, that's actually part of the fan housing support, of the engine case. You will find the number stamped on that aluminum section, and the number will face to the right side of the car.

All 1980 911 SCs were 3.0 liters displacement.

The number on the flat above the oil line to the cam on the right of the fan will be a 930 number such as 930/06 and the casting number on the engine case below the oil return tubes will be 930 101 xxx 3R
If its a 2.7 the number on the flat will be a 911 number such as 911/83
Cast into the block below the oil return tubes will be a 911 101 xxx 7R, especially the 7R

so here is what was found. on the bottom of the engine

930.101.104.4R and 930.105.111.0R

there was no number on the top by the fan. it was looked at with a couple sets of eyes. is this the 3.0 I had hoped for? thanks again

Car ID........

Brent,

The vin # (911620xxxx) you provided me is definitely a '76 car. The picture of the odometer in your other post also shows the gauge in kilometer. The engine number should read 6669xxx and less than 500 of these 3.0 liter engines were manufactured. The engine number could be located at the 5 o'clock location (alternator fan housing base mount). See picture below: Pay attention to the flat section with numbers. That's where to look for the engine number.

Could you provide the number on the WUR? Thanks.

Tony

note: edited to correct info.

so this is a euro car then? I wonder why it looks so much like the sc then? keep in mind I don't know much about porsche years yet. because that is certainly the vin. and it looks certianly like it has the 3.0 engine. could you please shed some more light on this please? I need to know weather or not it is worth my time to go and get it. thanks

Perhaps it was dressed as a later model car to be brought to this country in the "grey" market? Canadian import from europe, then brought to US?

at what ever rate. this is all starting to make sence now. the vin on the pillar would be hard to remove. and now to know that there were some of these. this is making me think the car is legit. if there were only 500 made. and it does indeed have the 3.0 I am probably going to buy it. I was leary until I ran the numbers with the local police. not stolen. etc. I appreciate it

Brent,

You are getting some incorrect info on this car. See my post in the other thread you started about it.
