915. 1-2 whine; 5-R...

Finished a transmission rebuild.
1-4 got new syncros, bands, shift sleeves, guide sleeves
Shift forks were replaced not that long ago (but lazy / rushed me didn't replace the rest of the parts I should have at the same time)

Motor and transmission back in the car and first and second gear have a funny noise that sounds like a bearing is being loaded incorrectly. Three and four are amazing. Fifth and reverse...
Let me tell you about they way they looked (fine)
the way they acted they way they had to have the color of their transmission fluid (blue)
there shifts were soft and smooth
there shifts were clean and bright
but after this rebuild...
the're not there!

5/R is just an awkward way of shifting into 3/4

I also have the wevo gate shift kit (internal to the 915 https://www.wevo.com/Products/TransmissionProducts/TransmissionImages/WEVO_915GateShift_INSTRUCTIONS_2007.pdf )

I have accepted that I am pulling the transmission and motor again. (not that I have already done this once on account of forgetting the starter ring on the new pressure plate)
What should I be looking for in the transmission?
Is there any hope of not pulling the motor/trans?

Thanks!

Andrew

What year car? Did you check to see if the pinion race was spinning in the case?

That part sounds like coupler mis-adjustment to me. I don't know if having the coupler that far out of whack could cause noises in 1-2, but I suppose it's possible.

Solved! The Dongle PN, 915-303-133-00 was incorrectly machined on the replacement WEVO kit. Put the original one back in, we are golden!
Also found that replacing sifter bushings was a huge help, PN: 911-424-139-00 and 914-424-224-00

Happy motoring!

I would lodge some complaints toward Wevo.

Can you please elaborate and hopefully post photos? I hope to be installing one of these and I would like to know what to look for.

Thanks

David
