Weight of my '83 911 SC - 2500lbs!

Passed by a weigh station that had a sign saying "$8.50 to weigh you truck". Turns out the price is the same for a Porsche! Weights and measures calibrated the scales recently and said accurate to 20 lbs. I had to give it a go...

2500lbs with about a 1/4 tank.

This is with a regular battery and carpets.
Ac comp is gone but most other parts remain.
Heavy-ish BBE muffler
ITB's certainly in place of CIS!
Recaro seats and spare missing.

I figure that's about 350 less than when it left the factory. Another side benefit to going efi w/ itb I guess!

That is pretty good. My 79 was at 2698 before I started my build. That was very stock configuration with functioning AC. Of course since I have started tearing it down I believe there has been at least 25 lbs of dirt fall out and onto the floor! haha

Not bad for a fairly stock SC.
Imagine how much lighter it would be with FG bumpers, race seats, RS door panels and no sound deadener.

PCA racing weight, with driver, is 2702 lbs. Some reasonably sized guys have to add 200 lbs of ballast to make this. Of course, these cars are pretty stripped.

Always amazed at how much more weight these cars gained from the early 70s to late 70s/early 80s. Thicker metal, galvanizing, and 'stuff' in general all added up didn't it. A dead stock 74 Carrera weighs 2400-2500lbs if that.

For comparison, my '84 in full attack AX trim:

Light cat, light muffler, Odyssey mini-battery, no spare, gas light on, on 15" wheels. No other weight reduction.

You can weigh your cars free at most trucking areas. Surprised you had to spend $8. I have just driven on the scales whenever i was curious. One time I biked onto one, and was surprised at how accurate it was, even at low weights.

The recaro seats were much lighter than the factory seats. I remember that but didn't bother to weigh them at the time. Removing all of that CIS stuff and backdated heater must have been a large portion of the missing weight.
Its almost time for a new battery so I'll go with something sort of lightweight at that time. smart Lithium batteries are getting cheaper and cheaper, right? might as well....

My 79 SC weighs 2571 with ~1/2 tank. Things that have been modded:
- no rear seats
- no AC
- no carpeting
- some sound deadening gone
- carb'd so no CIS
- SSI/Danske exhaust
- 16x7/9 Fuchs with meat
- spare/tools/jack still in the car
- BF Torino seats
- cage with 6 points harnesses (in addition to OE seat belts)
- speakers still in the doors (soon to be removed)

I plan on adding some dynamat and carpeting (+10 lbs), removing the speakers (-10 lbs), and removing the heavy bumper crush tubes/bumperettes in the back (-20 lbs off the back end).

Us cars are heavier with extra bumper deformation stuff and side protection bars inside doors.

When I bought my SC it was weighed by the shipping company at 2469lb and that's with gas, and a load of spare parts on the back seat. I've since got rid of things it doesn't need like temp control unit between the seats, fan blower motor, swapped in SSIs...

that is quite light Bill! Not sure what year your SC is but Excellence has a spec table and it looks like they got heavier and heavier every year. The '78 coupe was 2557 lbs while the 83 coupe was 2756 lbs.

Targas of course were different going from 2667 in '78 to 2855 lbs in '83. Porkers, those late year targas!

2300 lbs wet.... 83 Euro Sc...but I've gone the FG bumpers and sunroof delete extreme (+ mucho).....but you can really feel the difference from stock on acceleration and snap.
With the mid rpm grunt of the 3.0 it is just a peach.

Note...but you have to strip the AC and all elements thereof, backdate heat, mirrors Vitaloni, all sound deadening, SSI's, perlon carpet, cloth manual seats, no cruise, all rear seats/shelf/side trim covered in perlon, side valences, FG duck, euro crush tubes on the FG bumpers with all rubber bits gone...etc....

My SC is 2450, still have stock seats and bumpers and full batt.... so I should be able to drop nearly 200lbs.

Has no AC, SSI's ITB, and backdate heat.

I drove into the dump recently with my classic BMW. They weight you on the way in, and then on the way out to see how much to junk you dumped.

She was fine telling me how much my car weighed. 2380 with me in it and a half a tank.

I'm gonna give it a go with the SC in the Spring.
