I am curious about these tires (tyres) "Dunlop D-01 R-compound tyres (205/55 15 at the front, 225 50 15 at the rear)." We can not get them in the States and I am interested in trying something different than Victoracers this track season. Has anybody (US) seen these tyres available outside of Australia? 15" performance tyres are getting pretty limited.

Oh, great stuff, it is fun to hear Aussie talk smack about their Porsches and track. BIll

I've seen (bought) them in New Zealand. They are available in Japan (of course) and Europe too based on web searches I've done.

Try calling Dunlop.

(edit) In New Zealand, Dunlop offer this lot:

http://www.dunlop.co.nz/tyres.asp?tyreCatID=8#TyreSpecs

I dunno if they are better than Victoracers.

You might also want to try Bridgestone RE540S, they come in 215/50 for the 15x7 fronts and 225/50 for the 15x8 rears. They are very popular down here. They have a very flat wide tread area - the rears are akin to a 245/45/16.

I have used them for circuit sprints (what i think you guys call DE's), a 1 hour enduro and 4 and 5 day tarmac rallies - they are excellent.

Cheers - Ryan

Haha. I can answer that.

EXPENSIVE! They don't last very long... They grip amazingly well (even in the wet they are ok). But they DO NOT last, as you would expect (and I had S compound - the harder one!).

I can handle burning them out in 10,000 street kms, Cam .

I'm going to ditch my current tyres and I was thinking that some serious rubber is going to be good for keeping up with these guys on drive days (ahem, Stuart, Victor etc ) and for added safety on spirited mountain runs. It's a weekender, I have barely done 12,000kms in 2.5 years!

So they're pretty good in the wet, eh? That's what I am most worried about.

Hmmm, they are ok in the wet, especially when they warm up a bit. They aren't ideal by any stretch of the imagination though.

I expected to pretty much get through my set in the Targa NZ (about 3000km), but 600km of that is a race. I wouldn't count on 10,000km...

Adam,

Get a set of the Falken's I have - great compromise as I will do my best to demonstrate on Sunday.

Matt,

Where are you? I have made room in the fridge for that Slab!

Cam,

Hahahaha! She feels TOIGHT, too!

Adam,

The R-compound DO1s are a bit rumbly on certain surfaces, but it's a trade-off I could happily live with if you could get more than 10,000kms out of them, and if they cost less than $300 to replace!

It remains to be seen how they perform in the wet. My guess is they'll be no worse than my FM901s.

Vic,

I don't think slightly wider than standard front rotors puts me in M2! But I'm not sure about my MOMO shift knob.

It's a pity none of the SC boys in 'C' class are members of this BBS. I'd like to ask them about their illegal 915s.

A little birdie told me (who used to race frequently) that some of the Porsche Club (Victoria) guys use the truth economically when it comes to declaring mods. A couple of the "built" cars are said to have 3.4 piston/cylinders on 3.2 crankcases etc too... Dunno which ones though, and it could just be malarkey.

Matt,

All I can tell you is, they are clamping down on Brake mods this year. Ask anyone of the super quick C class SC boys.

Mmmmmmmmm.....cold beer.

This mornings health check has revealed a 2.5in crack in a front rotor- (love those Pagids blacks, wot?) New front rotors going on......

Interesting cause when I took the wheel off last weekend, it wasnt there.....must have been behind the caliper. Better found now than at the end of the straight on Sunday, I suppose.

Victor, care to share that slab with me? M2 for sure....
