Some Seat Questions

Hi,

I have a 1977 Targa S that I purchased about 2 years ago. When I bought the car, he PO gave me the Sport Seats that were originally with the car.

Earlier today I finally got around to installing them and have a couple of questions.

#1. I've installed the driver seat and I was able to install the two front screws however I can't get the back two screws installed. Even thought I push the seat all the way forward the seat is still covering the back two holes and I can't access them.

#2. Can I grease the rails? It is very rough/harsh to move the seat.

#3 What should I do with the old seats, are they worth anything? I've attached a pic.

Thanks for your ideas!

Kevin

If I remember correctly you install the rear bolts first then the front.
Use grease. With the seats out I use a grease injection needle, to get it between the sliding rails.
Sell or give them away. Recycled parts are good for our Porsche community.

rear bolts first
clean then re-grease rails

When I did this 21 years ago, I swapped the passenger rail (without handle) with the driver's side. Seemed to slide smoother?

If you've cleaned and lubed the seat rails and they still don't slide smoothly, then inspect them closely and disassemble to the extent you can inspect the rail where the roller balls roll. On a 30 year old hi-milage car, the balls can "dent" the rail, especially if the p.o. was a former NFL linebacker gone to seed. If the divots are severe, the mechanism can be difficult to move when the seat is loaded. Proper fitting replacements are hard to find.

Just did this.

As others have said...rear bolts first. Technically...clean and re-grease prior to install. :-)
