Reproduction rear brake calipers

Thoughts on this caliper? Seems a bit cheap. I’m an idiot and busted up the inside facing pin hole on my m style calipers on my 1970 911t. Would this caliper be a better idea than finding an old one and rebuilding? Would looking for just the inside half of another old caliper be a bad idea to cobble together an original caliper out of my old one with a rebuild?

eBay caliper #1 https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F25 4287024426

eBay caliper #2 https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F17 3687303580

Not looking to upgrade calipers to a later year

I’d check with and trust PMB on calipers. They’ve rebuilt quite a few calipers for me and they come out looking new. Your current caliper may still be usable as a core (?).

Please do yourself a favor and send your calipers to Eric at PMB; they will come back like new or better. He is a terrific guy and knows what he is doing.

Hey Pelican Parts sells the calipers as well. I sent them my old crusty ones and got nice new looking restored original Porsche in exchange. Support the forum!

What if someone's calipers do not qualify as cores?

What about the OP's eBay caliper #1?

$110./each delivered - with no core requirement.

They don't look OEM - but look like they would do the job.

Mine weren’t great. No issues sending them in and getting the core credit.
With brakes. I’d like Porsche quality.

What if you didn't have your cores though. What would be the price each then? Would you still buy Porsche - if you needed all 4 calipers?

I think they are $599/pair without core.

Electroplating delays rust

One of the eBay calipers looks painted. PMBs bright zinc plating protects the iron from rust, particularly internally, where it really matters.
The eBay calipers may be plated, under the paint, but I would want to be sure first.

PMBs are a known quality, got them on my car.
chris

If you ship the cores to PMB and one of the cores has a critical defect, you may not lose all of the core charge for that caliper. Eric is a good guy, give him a call.

It is the brakes, just not great place to go cheap. It is a Porsche, not a 1970s F150 pickup.

Do yourself a favor now and in the future, get the best brakes you can. No one ever said "dang, my brakes are too good."

I disagree, M brakes are the worst you can get in 911 brakes, so F150 brakes may be better.

I say the ebay brakes are worth a try, no magic to a cast iron caliper.

Additionally, m calipers cores should be no problem to find cheap if you need them, I know I have a box full of them in the shed I keep just in case.

I think there's several factors in play here.

If originality counts - stay with OEM.

If you have decent cores - you have more options.

If you are on a budget and originality doesn't count - you have more options.

If you are not on a budget - you have more options.

I hope that clears things up a bit.....
